Barnes calls out Chaz

Nothing better for your confidence than the coach telling you that if you don’t take the shot, you won’t play. So many others get “you better make that or you won’t play.”
Why not tell players the truth. Coddling players left when they all started getting paid due to NIL..

He designed the play coming out of the half. Not only did Lanier not take the shot he threw the ball into our bench cross court. He doubled his trouble with neglecting the shot and turning the ball over. He deserved to sit and nothing wrong with calling him out publicly. Accepting constructive criticism is a learned behavior, sometimes you have to be held accountable to get the point across. Kudos to Barnes.

I honestly think the best way to help Chaz is other players scoring, teams thus far have tried to focus on him. Last night ZZ, Dubar & Gainey took advantage late in the game by beating their 1 on 1s.

100% agree with this, and pointed it out in another thread.

The more Dubar, Gainey, and even Igor are seen as scoring threats the less teams will be able to sit on Chaz. Having a more well rounded offense will also take some of the pressure off on defense and help prevent those scoring droughts.

I think that is way off and a misread of what Barnes was saying. He was not sitting Chaz for performance, he was telling him keep taking the open shots, that is why we you are here. Sitting Nico would have done nothing but kill his confidence and lessen the number of snaps he sees going in to next year. Had he been benched multiple times as you suggested when our biggest problems were on O line that was often horrible and wide receivers who absolutely cannot create separation then not only would Nico likely being playing against us next year but you would also see us drop off the list of top QB future recruits as well as Brandon going somewhere else. Good thing coach is not aa impulsive and in need of immediate gratification as some of our fans.

This x 1000.

Fans sometimes believe you aren't actually dealing with young guys with different temperaments and levels of confidence. In this case, the play called had Chaz shooting off the screen, and he didn't come off the screen properly and couldn't get the shot off. It was the lack of execution of the play, not the thrown away pass.

The term student/athlete should now be called athlete/student

IMO, in about 10 more years they won’t even be students (unless they want the perk). Probably independent contractors rather than university employees.

It’s going to require some sort of federal legislation giving schools an exemption to being back some sort of sanity. I hope that if a salary cap is somehow passed, that coaches and administrators are included instead of just the athletes.

I think that schools eventually are simply selling naming rights on team names to 3rd parties and collecting rent on facilities. The minor leagues on steroids.
