Even Saban flexed enough to continue winning championships when the CFB landscape changed.
He didn't/doesn't like it, but he actually did it.
Fulmer couldn't, and hiring Pruitt was a reflection of that. Even nearly a generation later, PF had not changed his football philosophy. He wanted a team that looked like an early 90's championship team.
I'm not defending Fulmer at all, but with the hiring of Dave Clawson as OC after Cutcliffe left for the 2nd time in 2008, Fulmer was trying to modernize his scheme. His recruiting had fallen off ... and his QB's were atrocious in 2008.

Bama and Georgia will be favored in both those games. And as much as it pisses me off we always lose one we shouldn’t as well. 3 losses is realistic but….. screw that guy we going undefeated. 😂

Aside from QB, I just don't believe UK has or will continue to have the guns to beat UT or even USCe.
Well South Carolina shouldn't have either but they did. The games aren't played on paper. Sometimes that's a good thing and sometimes it's bad.

Last year, it was being said that Kentucky was a dangerous "trap game" for Tennessee because we played Georgia the next week. Tennessee won 44-6. It's annoying how often this game has been over-hyped as a potential loss for Tennessee. Watch the two games played under Heupel ... Kentucky's defense has not been able to match up with his system.

... and Kentucky has never earned as much respect from Tennessee as they seem to get on here. They are garbage.
Yeah could've been worse if we hadn't come off the gas pedal late too.

Devin Oleary scares me a little and they have good receivers, but their line and their RB situation is not good and they won't be able to beat us in a track meet. Proved that in 2021.

Most of us understand that we just don't lose to Kentucky

It has to be a situation like 2011 where we just didn't want to win so we could skip a bowl game. 2017 the worst team we've basically ever had with a redshirt freshman JG. 2020 with the other worst team we have ever had with an extra disastrous JG.

He's actually one of the best prognosticators, and that's a really smart bet. The 2 likely losses and then chalk up 1 to someone we should beat, but an opponent that may have a chip on their shoulder (SC last year).

I commented on the thread, but did not click, and don't know one damn thang about her.

I have to say, my 20-month-old grand-son could reach in a jar and choose either an orange M&M or a blue one ... seems like that is all that this Sally lady did.

Now, if she had given thoughtfully-reasoned analysis of why Kentucky is better than Tennessee, unit by unit, and how that has changed for each team since last year, then that might be different. But I am not aware that that happened. If that was provided, please post examples.
What are you even babbling about

What are you even babbling about. If you have listened to WNML you have most likely heard HIM on one or more shows a week during football season. He is a writer for CBS Sports. Chill out.

All true.

I probably shouldn't focus on Fulmer. Clawsen wasn't up to the task.
Cutcliffe has said the team was in a shambles when he returned in 2005.
The team was out of shape and weaker than in the past.
Meeting and practice discipline were ridiculed.
That discipline slipped again as soon as he left.

The personnel were absolutely wrong for the Clawfense. It is coaching malpractice to force a scheme without the personnel.
Butch did it his first season. And Clawsen/Fulmer did it too. No excuses.
They had Hardesty and Arion Foster and some decent WRs, but would not allow them to be studs.
The Oline was weak, and it is a tough haul with no SEC-level QB. Until the second half of 2009, Crompton might have been our biggest 5-star bust ever. Have to credit him for 1/2 a season being good.

I had a fear Heupel's offense would struggle with our Pruitt-built roster, but Heupel knew how to coach. Plus it is definitely easier to load a high powered offensive scheme with SEC talent on roster than some scrubby zone blocking spread system with elaborate misdirections. Even UK managed to do it when Mumme came to town and found Couch was capable enough.

I’m not really familiar with this guy but I just read an article on wins and losses per each sec teams. He has the Vols sitting at 9.5 wins. With losses to Bama Georgia and Wildkitties to the north. He’s got to be crazy. I’m no expert on much of anything but I really can’t see us losing to that bunch.
Most folks in the media would predict a random L to someone beside the big 2 teams. We have kentuckys number, so ATM is probably a logical guess.

He's really not bad and if you think 9.5 wins is disrespectful, it's very realistic. I'm hoping for 15-0, but we won double digit games for the first time since 2007. Let's not act like we have been unstoppable for years. Just being realistic.
If you think it "crazy" for real, bet the over.
I can see 9.5 but but not a loss to Kentucky.

The fact we consider an over/under of 9.5 as "disrespectful" (it's not) shows us how far Heupel has brought us in 2 years.

Agreed.

On the other hand, I'm not seeing a lot of complaint about the 9.5 part. Only the lose-to-Kentucky part. If Sallee had said, "probably lose to UGa, probably lose to Bama, and maybe lose to A&M" or "Bama, UGa, and maybe South Carolina," I think few here would have raised as much of a ruckus.

It's sort of like, I heard a newcomer radio DJ on 104.5 The Zone make a newb mistake a few weeks back. He said something like, "Oh, Tennessee fans really hate Kentucky, with a white hot passion." Which showed just how little he knows his audience. We don't hate Kentucky. Disdain maybe, but hate implies resentment. We hate Bama. We hated Florida for a while (some still do). But Kentucky is more like a kid brother with a perpetually snotty nose. They're not worthy of our hate. They're just not.

Same sort of thing here.

Go Vols!

OP, had it not been just a simply fluke season in ‘05, the best coach of our lives and second best it Tennessee history would have been undefeated against Vandy, too!

I hope Will Levis continues to improve his production and body/face language as a QB on our Titan's team.

That wasn't a good look. Maturity will have to happen in this area and I expect Vrabel will ensure this continued development.

right?
He's garbage. 100% chance he'll be gone in 3 years or less

I think the Kentucky game is a upset alert type game. Yes, we usually handle them, but there are a few things going on with them this year.

They've upgraded at QB. Leary has looked much better than Levis ever did. They brought back their old OC, which is a solid upgrade. They've brought in a good transfer class. Lastly, we play them in Lexington the week after going to Tuscaloosa.

I'm not saying they will beat us, but it isn't an insult IMO that someone picked it as an upset.

I understand that point to be fair. However, 9.5 means it's actually a toss up right?. And let's be real, these guys have to talk about something with not a lot of non recruiting content and no one thought USC could beat us until it happened. But I really agree that Kentucky is not exactly who I'm circling on the schedule next year.

I could see us losing to many other teams before we lose to Kentucky. Texas AM, Florida, South Carolina, all have a better chance than a Kentucky

We will not lose to Kentucky. Bama in Bryant Denny is going to be tough and Georgia comes to neyland. We split those two IMO

Levis was over-hyped, but he was not helped by a terrible Kentucky offensive line. Levis was an immobile statue. O’Leary is shiftier than Levis and better at improvising.

Here’s the deal and you may know this but chances are you lose a game you shouldn’t over the course of the season (see South Carolina). Even if you have a 90% chance to win each Saturday (outside of UGA and UA). You’d only have roughly a 20% chance of going undefeated in the rest of your games aka you lose to someone you probably shouldn’t

That’s fair. But don’t use the SC game as a defense for what you mean. That game was a complete anomaly. Yes you can always lose a game you aren’t supposed to. But we are more talented than UK. Losing to them this year is unacceptable.

Now take TAMU. I think we will be favored against them unless Petrino really fixes their offense. But they have much more talent than we do. So losing to them if we weren’t supposed to is acceptable. With UK? We are better than them at nearly every position.
