Pete admitted wrongdoing. Also, I wouldn't consider the standing ovation he got when he was on the field with the All-Century Team at the World Series much of a "kicking."

The SF fans certainly still cheer for BB and he hasn't even taken the step of admitting any wrong doing.

In my opinion the best hitter possibly ever, is still being kicked.Always defending himself.Always!......................I guess if anyone that has racial hangups thats their problem.I know I can go to bed at night knowing I have had a more positive effect on a young African American (27), locked up for two years, recently released, and he respects the hell out of me.Probably more than his own dad.So, I myself, don't buy into the racial overtones here.I don't have to defend my answers and I won't.I know who I am.

How much more straight forward could the question be?

I'm simply objecting to your attributing motives to others that you do not yourself share. Are we to believe that you are more racially enlightened than the vast masses out there?

Stated another way, why accuse others of have a racial interpretation when it doesn't apply to you?
I must have missed the part where I claimed to be speaking for anyone else.

Rose=Not one of the 10 best hitters of all time. His records are the product of hanging on too long and scratching out 4-5 years worth of hits as a mediocre hitter. He couldn't carry the bats of Ted Williams.

I see, your statement saying "look no further than the color of their skin" in response to the original question in this thread was simply explaining your own personal reasons and was in no way intended to suggest it is a reason others think that way? I stand corrected.

First, if you're going to quote someone, you should do so accurately. Next, I was answering a question. If someone asks me "Who is the most beautiful woman in the world?" and I say "Undoubtedly, Catherine Zeta-Jones," I give the questioner credit for having enough intellect to understand that's my answer, not some universal truth.

Does being "congenial' include dumping the wife who stood by you through cancer for a skanky former backup singer to Michael Jackson? How do you think the public would have treated Barry if he pulled that stunt?

How did the public respond to Michael Jordan's gambling problem or his supposed affair? Or how about OJ Simpson, the public simply looked the other way every single time a domestic abuse report came out, until he killed his wife. Why, because he was a likeable character.

The relevance of any of that to Barry Bonds or Lance Armstrong would be?

Bad example, as that is pretty much a universal truth.
With apologies to Angelina Jolie.

I would say it's a bad analogy since the original question asked about the reasons behind public sentiment not what are your personal reasons...

If you rephrased your analogy to why do some many people think CZJ is the most beautiful woman in the world or who is it that the public considers the most beautiful woman in the world then the analogy would be fitting.

Given the way the original question was asked, the answer given speaks to suggested reasons why the public feels a certain way. As a result, any reason given is speaking to the motivations of the public.

On most topics you respond brilliantly. However, on topics of race you are very dense. Being that Jordan and Simpson are both black and both were involved in situations in which their character can be called in to question, if it was simply a matter of race then public America would have hung them. However, personality plays a much more dominant part than does race. If you can not see that, then you are beyond help.

If that personality plays to how the public wants the individual to act. How well has Jim Brown been treated by the media? As long you play the role of the smiling, grateful field hand, the public loves you. When real men, like Jim Brown, stand up and tell it like it is they are immediately blacklisted and ostracized. You can call me dense all you want. I'll take being dense over being oblivious to reality every day.

I am sorry, but anyone who plays the race card is not a 'real man' in my book. Real men take individual responsibility, no matter what obstacles are in their way. The don't defend thieves like Maurice Clarett, for the sole reason that he is an 'underpriviledged black man.'
