According to Patrick Brown on GVX Antonio Barton likely will not play and Darius Thompson will start at PG for Vols.

I suppose Lopez will get the backup reps at PG Saturday. I would however like to see us experiement a bit with lineups and maybe use Armani at the pg spot some (just for this exhibition)

Uh. I'll probably get bashed for this, but our last option would be to go to Armani. I'd say if we had to have someone run PG it would be McRae over Moore.

Lopez has enough talent to have played in a D2 school, just not enough to compete highly in D1.

Let Reese play point before Armani, c'mon guys.

Armani doesn't have the handle to play the point.

yeah, no way Amani has improved his ballhandling from his true freshman year. I'm sure he hasn't been working on it more in the last year than in his career prior, so that won't make a difference either.
He can buy minutes at point just fine.
If we are going off last year, I hope Kenny Hall rides the bench and hope someone beats Trae out.

Who have you seen make such a huge leap once they were in college?

C'mon guys, settle down. That is is why I said give it a try....during an exhibition. I believe Armani brings enough to the table where if he can manage to handle the ball efficiently then it could be a big positive for us.

You mean what true freshmen come into college after hardly ever working on ballhandling in highschool, work on it and improve? The answer is whichever players put in the work. Players shoot 3's and dunk. Its aau ball. If they want to defend better or handle the ball better, they have to work. Amani has worked. Worked harder at it in the summer than some former pgs did in 3 years.

No, I am talking about players who never were point guards or primary ballhandlers in High School and then can't cut it as freshmen in college suddenly improving to the point of being PG's in D1.

He's not running the team for 35 minutes. He would be buying minutes and is capable. So is McRae. So is josh. I'd put him there so McRae could stay with his game on the wing.

I had the opportunity to go to the practice today. From what I could tell it looks as if McRae will be running point guard and Hubbs will start until Barton returns from injury.

Trae Golden wasn't the greatest PG we ever had, but as someone who was a SG by trade, and played SG in high school, he transitioned pretty decently to playing PG in college. He was pretty shaky as a freshman, but improved immensely as a sophomore from his first year.

I personally didn't like him as a PG (mainly because leadership didn't come natural to him), and he had his share of struggles, but we could have done worse.

Interesting. With all the positive pub from Thompson, I surely thought he would start.

So Thompson is the third option at the point?

I could be wrong. McRae brought the ball up court and called the plays about every time. That being said, I was very impressed with Thompson's shooting and ball handling. He may well end up being the starter come Saturday.
