Barton likely out for Sat. Exh game

Were they scrimmaging? What type of scenario was it? Was Thompson running plays also?

It was mostly controlled scrimmage. McRae would call out the plays for what seemed to be the starters. Thompson was point for the other side but they didn't run plays they would just play through

Also McRae has definitely improved his handling, he never turned the ball over even when being pressed.

He's not running the team for 35 minutes. He would be buying minutes and is capable. So is McRae. So is josh. I'd put him there so McRae could stay with his game on the wing.

you put in Moore to "buy minutes" and before you know it he has 3 turnovers and the opposing team is on a 7-0 run.

I had the opportunity to go to the practice today. From what I could tell it looks as if McRae will be running point guard and Hubbs will start until Barton returns from injury.

Thompson will be running point, McRae will back him up. This isn't really a big deal as it's likely for 1 exhibition.

There were point guards on both teams, it was 2 teams scrimmaging, McRae was one PG Thompson the other.

No, I am talking about players who never were point guards or primary ballhandlers in High School and then can't cut it as freshmen in college suddenly improving to the point of being PG's in D1.

Magic are trying it with Oladipo this year

Brandon Lopez is also out for a personal matter for Saturday's game. I do look for Lopez to contribute some when he gets back although not much because of Barton and Thompson. Still though its good to have a 3rd PG who has played in the SEC and can help some.

I'm glad that they have no choice but to give Darius some serious minutes tomorrow. If Barton's injury is a lingering one then he may be be getting the most minutes out of all 3 freshman this year. Excited to see him play for the first time tomorrow though! Hope the online stream is good! Can't believe tomorrow is our 1st game, I've been waiting on this for a long time!! Exhibition or not!

Let me first say that I am NOT second guessing you. I mean I may be slow, but not that slow. :)

But do you know this for a fact?

The reason i ask is kinda could see a scenario where CCM wants DT to get used to coming off the bench. Now I know it probably isn't rocket science for these guys to start a couple of games and transition into coming off the bench. But with McRae being a senior and DT just a fresh I guess I could understand the logic in starting McRae with DT coming off the bench to get 20-25 minutes, while McRae slides back to his natural spot. Whatcha think?

Nah IMO you throw DT into the fire his very 1st game. Epically when it's against a D2 game that doesn't even count. Now if this was Xavier I might think differently. But DT needs to know what it's like to start because he might be doing that a lot this season if Barton can't stay healthy. This is all JMO though.

good point here. As long as we keep Money at the 3 or 4 I'm cool. :)

I'm high on Money too, but only if he's playing the 3 or 4 like you said. His ball handling is too weak for the 1 and his shooting is too weak for the 2.

Doubtful. What happens if Barton gets injured during the season? You gonna make McRae start at PG because your afraid of playing the true freshman who you recruited to play point guard. Now's the perfect time to see what he's got so you know how to handle that situation if it comes up in the season.

I don't think McRae Maymon or stokes will get much playing time Saturday, think you'll see a lot of the freshman, as well as Moore.

Krager should go, this is probably the most time his boy Reese will see :)

:eek:lol:

Stoked4 mentioned that about Barton getting hurt, and I wasn't really thinking about that when I asked you if you knew for sure.

You guys make a good point.

Haha...that's true. I think he could contribute down the road with a quicker release and improved quickness. I think the bone of contention on him (IIRC) was Krager's insistence that he would log major minutes this season. I don't see that, and he may have backed off that stance himself.

He certainly proved last season in spot duty that he wasn't quite the dud many thought he was prior to his arrival.

I don't understand all the Reese hate . His shooting could be a big help for us
