Joey, with all due respect, Golden simply isn't a candidate that excites very many of us. When the announcement is finally made, we want people to say, "Tennessee definitely landed the very best coach that they possibly could get," rather than someone about whom analysts would say, "TN could do much, much worse than Al Golden."

I'm not pushing for Al Golden to TN but I wouldn't at all be unhappy with with him if that is what we ended up with. Golden is very, very highly thought of in the coaching community and people that know football know and praise his work at Temple and Miami. I'm not lobbying Golden to TN I'm simply telling the uninformed that the guy can coach and there is a reason that the guy's name comes up when there are coaching vacancies at major football programs.

Hell, it's moot point anyway because Grudens coming ... :)

Look at Temple's record for the 10 yrs prior to his arrival and get back to me. The University was going to do away the program and gave it one last shot with Golden and he produced a winner.

This is TN not Temple. This is the SEC, NFL minor leagues... not the pee wee league. Losing record is a losing record. Past record for Temple means jack to me cause he didn't coach them then. He did coach them up a losing record. 27-34 ain't good enough for prime time.

I think Al is a very good coach, but he's far from my top 3.

Not in my top 3 either but would be in my top 5. I'm not even sure he is a candidate for the TN job, my point was that there is reason he's been a candidate for other major jobs, people who know football, know his body of work and have alot more invested and alot more to lose consider him a solid choice.

Losing record is a losing record when you've been equipped with enough resources to compete and to recruit. Golden didn't have any of that when he started at Temple. Hell, they were so bad that they got kicked out of their own league. Most of Golden's losses came in his first year. That team steadily improved each year he was there, and he got Temple to a bowl game for the first time in 30 years there.

He isn't Derek Dooley 2.0. Derek Dooley's teams never improved much during his stint there. Golden's teams have shown a track record of improvement.

He's not my first, second, or even third choice ,but the guy has shown that he can take a program in the s***er and build it up.
