Less plays = Less football = Bad for fans and players.Re: consuming a whole quarterâŚ.I mean is that any different now? The remedy is still the same, prevent a First down at some point and get off the field. The play clock is going to start eventually even under the current rules
And that's not really what happens in CFB even on perennial powers. No one will replace Will Anderson or Jalen Carter. But new guys will emerge. More often than not, voids left by guys like Wright are filled by broad improvement rather than one player. That's not unique to UT.Nobody is replacing Wright.
The second statement is not a qualifier for the second. LOTS of guys who are 3* and below go in the draft. Some go early in the draft. Spraggins was a 3* and easily has the talent to work himself into the first round if he has a good year.I don't expect anyone on this OL to go 10th in the '24 NFL Draft. That would certainly be something to behold if they did considering there's not a 5 star OL on the roster.
The "unit" is all that matters. IIRC, during Heupel's tenure at Mizzou he had one particular OL that was excellent. I believe two of the guys were former 3* and the other three something below. But they were mean... even dirty... and all did their jobs as a unit.I do think that Crawford can plug the hole though. I thought he did a pretty good job at LT last year. Campbell sounds like he has taken over on the left side. Mincey got better last season too. This is Dayne Davis' 10th season in Knoxville. To say we have big concerns at OT is a slap in all their faces iyam. It sounds like they all worked very hard this offseason as a unit.
Right or wrong... he just has diarrhea of the mouth. He figures... and unfortunately correctly... that if he makes a prediction like this and things go bad he can thump his chest and proclaim his foresight. If it goes good then few if any will notice or even remember the next time he does it.Maybe Basilio's right, maybe he's not. They just started practicing real football today, so I'm willing to give the coaches the benefit of the doubt on this one and let camp play out a little longer before I write those guys and this team off. Needless to say, if he's right, this team is in for some deep doo doo. Without an OL, this O goes nowhere fast.
Agreed. But if anyone gets drafted off this OL, it will be because they had an incredible season/career and not because they were expected to due to their recruiting rankings or measurables. That was my point.PS- Campbell appears to have locked down the LT position. He is doing that over two guys who split the position last year and played well. That suggests he's pretty good and a potential draftee.
I actually think Addison would step up and perform well at C. Mays played early out of desperation. It worked out. I think they have some decent options... but reporters have to be "concerned" about something. If they said everything is hunky dory they would get paid.As long as someone steps up at LG the oline should be decent. Hopefully no injuries at C and RT either. I donât have confidence in their backups yet.
Yes if Mincey slid to RT during an injury my concerns wouldn't be that big vs seeing Davis out there.I actually think Addison would step up and perform well at C. IMHO, Mincey will get an opportunity vs Crawford and Davis to win that RT spot. He's the most athletic of the 3. Could be wrong but I suspect he'll be the starter then if something happens with Campbell Mincey would slide over and one of the other two would play RT.
In spite of all this handwringing, I can remember not too long ago when UT had like 8 healthy bodies total in the OL room. We would have been talking about Umarov being forced to start too early. Development was poor. Recruiting was poor. Excuses were flying. Just a mess.
Now we see good competition and depth. In the relative sense when compared to other current position groups... maybe the OL is a "concern". Compared to previous years... not so much.
