I really don't understand why someone spends so much time bashing a program that they follow so much. Why do you follow UT Basketball if all you are going to do is talk negative about it? Seriously, I am curious? I enjoy reading this forum and you seem to contribute good stuff to it for the most part. But, sometimes I am baffled by the things you say. I am not trying to bash you or anything, I truly am curious. Thanks

It's a personal thing with hat. He likes the Vols, but personal BS with Pearl overrides his good sense and he just posts petty post after petty post.

As far as panicking about the recruiting, let's wait until the signing period is actually here. We have two solid players and the spring period to come. Two years ago it was looking similar with a lot of whiffs with Eliot Williams and others. Then, Hopson and Negedu ended up signing in the spring.

We have 2 guards and a Brian Williams look alike come March, then I'll be concerned. There are still guys out there.

So, the truth is petty? Interesting. I'm confused as to how it's anything but relevant to point out the fact that this staff has a history of delusions of grandeur when it comes to where they stand in the pecking order of various recruits.

Maybe we should recruit more players that nobody wants like Chris Loftan, JuJuan Smith, and Dane Bradshaw. We have won more games with those players than we have recruiting highly ranked players such as Ramar Smith, Duke Crews, etc.

First of all, I do not claim to know Hat on a personal level. However, I've had numerous dealings with him on this very message board. When I first joined Vol Nation, I didn't like what Hat had to say. I thought he was just you're average negaVol, and we had our share of disagreements.

I’ll admit I was wrong. Hat is simply a realistic Tennessee Vols fan who isn't blinded by his passions. He is also very knowledgeable, and I’ve found him to be correct on many of his predictions and evaluations. I’m not saying he’s right all the time, because no one is.

Take this for what it’s worth, which may be nothing to many of you. But, for God’s sake, chill out on the Hatvol-bashing. Remember, we're all UT fans with differing opinions on pretty much everything.

There's nothing more annoying than someone being constantly negative and passing it off as "realistic". The two are not the same.

I have observed hat for a while and, sorry, he's just a douche. It's one thing if he was constructive in his criticisms, but it's just a constant wave of smarmy, condescending BS to everything and everyone.

I have no patience for someone who finds the negative in every situation and makes the board his personal playground for his petty agenda against Pearl. I think he needs to be called out by whomever when he starts his crap. Yes, he's an insider and knowledgable, but the dude isn't Yoda, especially when he puts his hatred of Pearl in front of clear-headed analysis (Which is most of the time).

I don't care what you Pearl slurpers have patience for. Tell us some more about how dirty Cal is when Pearl recruited a guy whose transcript was written in crayon. By the way, how's recruiting going? I can't wait to see the spin when Harris signs with 'Cuse and Pinkston casts his lot with 'Nova or the Hall. I'm sure we'll get more Pearl apologists crying about how tough his job is.

In no particular order, the responses will be:

1. "(Insert school name here) and/or (coach name here) cheats. Everyone knows it. Just because those schools have actually played in Final Fours doesn't mean they have better programs than UT."
2. "Did you hear the press conference? That kid can barely talk. No way he could have even qualified at UT."
3. "He wasn't that good anyway." Then 20 weaknesses will be discussed about his game when 2 days ago there were none.
4. "Ya'll here about the 2 star recruit over at Austin-East? He'll fit better into Bruce's system than that old 5 -star we just lost out on, again."

I tried to fight this battle myself once. Didn't work so well for me either. Here's kinda how it works - you attack Hat and you lose all credibility and everyone thinks you're stupid. Just too many people here think he is God himself. And i'm sure he'll put some clever philosophical spin on that...:rolleyes:

I dont have a problem with Hat...learned to tolerate him, not going away any time soon.

Although I don't agree with Hat's distaste (possible hatred) for Bruce Pearl or the skill level of Melvin Goins, his knowledge and realism on the state of the program are usually spot on.

no, the Melvin Goins thing is all game. That was the dumbest thing Bruce Pearl has ever done at UT, and then treated Daniel West like scum. Pearl was way over line.
