BasketVols in the NBA (Pros)

I have always been surprised by Grant's lack of rebounds at the NBA level. He seems to be grabbing more with Charlotte in a small sample size. I don't watch that much NBA but in the games I did watch with the Celtics and a few with the Mavs it never looked like he hit the boards that hard. For a guy that plays hard defensively and does other little things it always surprised me. Some of it may have been based on assignments and offensive spacing. Just a thought I had on ways he could increase his value in the league.
Maybe it’s because he is about the average height of an NBA 2 guard?

There is no parallel between Luka and Lebron, the closest parallel between Luka and any modern player would probably be James Harden. With Luka being a better player around the basket and Harden being more perimeter-oriented. But even then Harden has a much more well-rounded game, defensively, off the ball etc. Harden can make a big impact on the game when he is not scoring. Luka passes the ball to teammates when he has to. Createing shots for his teammates at least on purpose does not seem to be his M.O..

Grant is gonna have a long career in the NBA. He will never be a dominant in one stat. He will be a glue guy the guy that gets in where he fits and does what needs to be done.. Need an enforcer.. he can sorta do that.. rebounds? he can get a few, score yup he's a great 3rd or 4th option, defend other teams post players and frustrate the H out of them sure. He will be like a PJ tucker before he lost his mind (those first 11 years). He can be a key cog on a championship team that needs his talents ala Robert Horry/Lamar Odom.
I agree with much of this post except for the Harden is better defensively part. He may be the absolute worse defensive player this century and there are plenty of YouTube clips and stats to support it …

"Out of shape" ... but he's averaged 30 min a game since being traded.

"Yapping" too much ... coach of Hornets has already credited Grant with improving their defense through his communication. I can see Luka & Kyrie not liking that, though.

The Hornets are a very different situation from Mavs or Celtics. I'm excited to see what Grant does there.

Yeah, you just can't play defense without talking unless you want to have the worst interior defense in the league . . . oh, wait.

the report was a tweet for Fox News..not FSN Fox News.... just sayin

Tweets are not a reliable source for news.

Grant is in the same shape hes been in since college if not better.. same shape he was in in Boston....all that yapping is what made him such a contributor on their defense... that same type of yapping that makes Draymond Green... Draymond Green. In Dallas he went to a team that's not and never will be bought in on team defense. because their top players ain't playing no D period ever. Grant is like Draymon or Rasheed Wallace or Kenyon Martin a QB on defense.. they are not so much great 1 on one defensive player they are the types of guys that get folks lined up right.

Harden doesn't try on D but he's nowhere near worst ever. When he locks in, he's actually kinda good at D, TBH.

You’re splitting hairs imo. Luka and harden are the two worst defenders I’ve ever seen in the nba. They both make Trae young look like Zakai Ziegler lol

Nah. Size alone makes them better defenders than Trae

There was the bubble Game 7 between OKC and Houston a few years ago. Harden couldn't hit a shot to save his life, so he had to D up or go home.

Then, he shockingly started playing hard fundamental defense in the second half and had the series winning defensive play. He can do it, or at least he could in the past. He just wouldn't most games.

I guess that makes it more maddening though.

Luka draws comparisons to lebron because of all the “youngest player to do X since lebron” stats but lebron always played a much more inclusive style of basketball. Luka is amazing, but a lot of the time he’s a drag to watch.

Let's recall that Josh Richardson played for Dallas and with Luka and had a bad season and got traded again. It can't be easy to play offense when one guy always has the ball and takes so many shots. It can make others hesitate to shoot because they're thinking: Wait, maybe I should not shoot and get it back to Luka. UT's offense got stale for a few games because everybody as standing around watching Knecht and thinking that he should be the one to shoot. Teams like Dallas, with one guy dominating the ball, never win a title.

If size alone makes them better Trae then why is ZZ the best defender out of all four? Lol

First of all, ZZ is defending SEC guards and would get absolutely cooked by guys like Jalen Brunson.

The difference between ZZ and all of them is they are offensive-minded players and ZZ tries his hardest on D. Harden only tries when he absolutely has to, but when he has to he's much better than Trae. Trae can't stop anybody. Luka and Harden can at least hold their ground and close up passing lanes with their length, and they are good defensive rebounders.

I will say Trae is working harder on D these days, but at the end of the day, he's still little and weak, and doesn't put forth much effort.
