5 star OT from Florida:

COLLEGE FOOTBALL JANUARY 3, 2017
5-Star OG Tedarrell Slaton Names Leader: ‘Florida Is The Team To Beat’

by Campus Insiders
EMBED
00:0100:35
Five-star offensive guard Tedarrell Slaton has named a leader for in his recruitment.

With less than a month now to go until National Signing Day, the competition is heating up for teams to round out their classes on a high note.

One elite player several colleges are still trying to land is five-star offensive guard Tedarrell Slaton, the nation’s No. 34 overall player and No. 2 recruit at his respective position.

With his high school career now in the review mirror, the Plantation, Florida prospect is focused on evaluating the final teams in his recruitment – Baylor, Kentucky, Miami, Ole Miss and Florida.

As for the leader at this time, Slaton says “Florida is the team to beat.”

One factor weighing heavily in his recruitment is staying close enough to home to give his mom the opportunity to see him play.

“My mom doesn’t want to see me go out of state because she wants to see me play,” Slaton said. “It’s that, and it’s cold everywhere else. It’s not cold in Florida.”

Slaton has also gotten a good vibe from UF.

“It’s the hometown feel and over the past few weeks I have been talking to my mom and talking with my coaches.”

Slaton has an official visit planned for Florida on Jan. 20, two weeks before National Signing Day. He will also use the final month to check out some of the other teams previously mentioned, however nothing is set in stone at this time.

Slaton unofficially visited the nearby Hurricanes on Oct. 8, but other than that has been quiet as far as visits go.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 341 pounds, he’s built to make an immediate impact at the next level. There are areas for improvement in his game, specifically pass protection and footwork, but for a team like Florida looking to shore up its offensive line, landing Slaton could provide a huge boost heading into 2017 and beyond.

Coach Fran Brown bringing in Hand but also QB Leary from the East Coast!
Big offer for Leary

Timber Creek junior quarterback Devin Leary on Thursday picked up an offer from Baylor University.
That was Leary's second Big 12 offer, following West Virginia.

The offer was especially noteworthy in that former Temple coach Matt Rhule was recently hired as Baylor's coach. Also, Temple assistant coach Francis Brown, a Camden graduate who has been instrumental in the Owls' successful recruitment of many top South Jersey players, is expected to join Rhule in Waco, Texas.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Leary set state records this season with 3,688 passing yards and 48 passing touchdowns in leading Timber Creek to a 12-0 record and the Chargers' second straight South Jersey Group 4 title.

A top shortstop and hitter, Leary said he plans to skip the baseball season at Timber Creek this spring to focus on football.

The Baylor offer was Leary's 11th. He also has offers from programs such as Iowa, West Virginia, Maryland, Boston College, Rutgers, Temple, and Wake Forest.

Cherry Hill West defensive back Harrison Hand has also picked up offer from Baylor. He was first team all-South Jersey by the Inquirer

I think you guys got a good hire, BUB. While everyone was fawning over Herman, Rhule and Temple went and won that conference. If he can prove to be a good recruiter, you guys may have made the best hire of this off season IMO.

I'm hoping he does a good job there. Spent some time on baylors campus when I was in the military in early 2000s. That can be a fun place. Wish it the best.

Blah

You mean to tell me we are on the cusp of being the top rated basketball program in the land, possibly in both men and women's, that we have a new football coach that chose us over Oregon that is hitting home run hires and receiving universal praise on the recruiting trail against all media and Baylorfans cynicism, that we have a more competent AD than ever before, AND donations are up 15%?

I just don't believe it, the CAB truthers told us we were finished, they agreed with Paul Finebaum and company we were through, that the BOR would never allow Baylor to be a competitive athletic entity ever again...

I don't understand.

A Growing Interest in Baylor

There is, perhaps, no stronger sign of institutional strength than student enrollment. At Baylor, we have been truly blessed with record demand and strong enrollment in recent years. During this fiscal year, we have seen an increase of over 20,000 prospective students inquiring about the possibility of attending the University — an 11 percent rise from last year’s inquiries. In addition, our total number of applicants for Fall 2017 (43,094) is up three percent compared to last year.

Demand for our growing graduate programs is also on the rise. Over the last 10 years, we have seen a 40 percent increase in applications to Baylor’s Graduate School. Entering graduate students are more academically prepared than ever before with candidate GRE scores higher than this same period last year.

ESPN?s National Championship TV options include coach film room and ex-Alabama and Clemson players - SBNation.com

ESPNEWS: Coaches Film Room

Here’s a really cool way to take in the game, if you’re OK with listening to people talking instead of hearing the sounds of the stadium. There are few commercial breaks, while five big-time coaches sit in a room together and talk about the game:

Syracuse’s Dino Babers (Former Art Briles Assistant at Baylor)

Minnesota’s P.J. Fleck

Colorado’s Mike MacIntrye

Baylor’s Matt Rhule

Former Oregon coach Mark Helfrich (New Baylor OC)

These coaches will help us understand the Xs and Os behind the game better. It’s a unique way to take in football, and we only get it once a year.

Baylor Offers Nacogdoches Defensive Back Josh Thompson
by Mike Graham January 5, 2017 3:55 PM

East Texas’ football scholarship leader added to his advantage Thursday.

Baylor did the honor, presenting Nacogdoches defensive back and Texas verbal commitment Josh Thompson his 29th college choice among NCAA Division I FBS schools alone. Thompson reported the news through his personal Twitter account.

The Bears program has been the most active within the region in recent weeks for a pretty simple reason. It is transitioning to new head coach Matt Rhule, hired Dec. 6, from interim head coach Jim Grobe and the carryovers that worked under fired coach Art Briles.

It took Rhule nine days to make his first local move, but Thompson’s offer marked Baylor’s fifth offer to a local prospect in about half a month’s time.

John Tyler quarterback Bryson Smith was Rhule’s first target. Smith effectively declined the offer by reconfirming his commitment to Houston once that school hired Major Applewhite.

Rhule moved onto Henderson’s senior duo of receiver Trestan Ebner and running back Lakendrick VanZandt. Ebner backed off from claiming himself as a TCU commitment after getting the Baylor offer, but he has not committed to another program. VanZandt held firm to TCU.

Carthage junior running back Keaontay Ingram was the fourth player to hear from Rhule. He is uncommitted.

Thompson — the third consecutive regional scholarship leader out of Nacogdoches’ defensive backfield — had a successful senior season despite his team being eliminated from postseason contention in the final six seconds of the regular season. While opposing offenses largely stayed away from his side of the field, he recorded 71 tackles and accounted for six takeaways through 10 games.
Baylor wrapped up its sole season under Grobe last week with a win against Boise State in the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl for a 7-6 record.

The Bears aren’t far removed from being the Big 12’s premiere program. They won the 2013 league championship and tied for first place in 2014.

Like all college football prospects currently in their senior year of high school, Thompson will become eligible to sign with any program that offers him on Feb. 1.

With it coming together this quickly at this time of the year with a new coach with highly rated recruits, this screams "dirty program."
