Can't wait to hear the TCU / Baylor / Big-12 response.

SOS. According to ESPN last night, OSU's SOS was 9 spots better than TCU and 14 spots better than Baylor.

The playoff committee is a joke cause it's full of subjectiveness. The BCS took the bias and subjectiveness out of it and put resumes up against resumes as good as anything we've ever had IMO.

Auburn's exclusion in 2004 was the only possible miss and even that came down to SOS. The SEC has done an infinitely better job in their OOC scheduling since 2004.

ESPN. 'Nuff said. According to FBSchedules.com (which is just one of many ranking sites out there), it was TCU (30), OSU (35), and Baylor (67).

I didn't look at Sheridan, but probably should.

I'm not much of a "conspiracy theorist", but this one smells. Bad.

Go Vols.

But does that factor in OSU playing an extra game?

Those rankings from FBS are preseason, based on opponent's records from last year. It's dated April 1.

uh...Auburn loss last year isn't hurting Bama this year. We will be in down to the wire recruiting battles with Bama in February for years to come. Cheer for the Tide if you want, just don't pretend you're doing the Vols a favor in the process.

You're right, I'm sure Butch never mentions that the SEC has won 8 of the last 11 national championships when he's recruiting a young man. I'm sure he never points that out to let them know we play with the big boys in the hardest conference there is and to be the best you have to beat the best. I'm sure none of these young men, most of who've played football the majority of their lives, thrive on that idea of competition.

The truth is, Bama pretty much gets whoever they want right now, but Butch has to use everything he can to sell recruits. Conference prestige is part of that. As much as I hate Bama, them winning does help us. Going head to head for a recruit, they're probably going to win, but going head to head for kids against out of conference schools, selling that we play in the SEC is a great tool. But it only stays a great tool as long as we're the premiere conference in the land. It won't hold water if the Pac 12, or the Big 10, or any other conference goes on a run of NCs. You use everything in your arsenal when recruiting a young man, including how successful your conference mates are when the need arises. I've heard more than one recruit say they wanted to come play in the SEC because "that's where it's at."

And just to finish my rant, how exactly would Bama losing to OSU or Oregon be funny? It wouldn't leave me laughing. Why should it? They still competed for a NC, a fact they can sell in recruiting, while we're still a 6-6 team that eked into a bowl. I'll laugh when we beat Bama, because that will be a great day. When we beat Bama I'll probably rupture my damn appendix from laughing so hard, but it'll be worth it.
