1. This board will contain more posters who hate Bruce Pearl than any other place on the internet.

2. Their hatred and jealousy will grow because this will be the best year for Bruce Pearl in his history on the way to a number 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.

3. TN will average 84-86 ppg, and be one of the highest scoring teams in the nation.

4. TN will be back up to 10+ steals per game and pressing consistently to wear other teams out by the end of the game.

5. Bobby Maze will look much more comfortable, less hesitant and will create more points off the dribble.

6. Scotty Hopson will have a sophomore season that is slightly better stats wise than Tyler Smith's sophomore season.

7. J.P. Prince will play defense this year. He will be more Tayshaun and less Danny Granger.

8. Wayne Chism will play and run more this year than last, and Brian Williams will only be in when Wayne is wiped.

9. TN will beat multiple teams they are not expected by Hatvol to beat this season.

10. TN will be improved by 3 slots at least in 3 point shooting in the SEC.

G: Bobby Maze/Melvin Goins
G: Scotty Hopson
G: JP Prince
G/F: Tyler Smith/ Kenny Hall
C: Wayne Chism/ Kenny Hall

I think Kenny Hall will play some Center as well as forward. I think this team will be running and running some more and then running some more. Woolridge and Tatum will get their minutes, but the first five with 4 seniors will play more than Pearl traditionally has played starters throughout the course of the season.

Overall I think Wayne Chism, Tyler Smith and even J.P. Prince and Bobby Maze will recognize that they need a good draw to make a deep run in the tournament and that high RPI will not be enough. They need to win statement games and get publicity so that Selby can cry with Worldwide Wes and the Nike $$$ that he missed the boat to be a star at the most fun program in basketball.

I would also like to see other predictions of final records done now before our exhibition games...

Nice, but this team will not go 29-4. Best case scenario 25-8. IMO

I think this team will be significantly improved from last year, and I think while the SEC will be better, it will not be much better. KY has scary players, Vandy adds one player who to me is a matchup problem for us, but we could sleepwalk against UGA and beat them...

If we actually press and create turnovers that lead to easy buckets, and if our seniors realize they need to play defense, this team will be nasty.

JP does not have the injury excuse this year. Lets see those long arms shut someone down...

Please tell me you're not serious with us being the #1 seed? News flash here; Unless Melvin Goins turns out to be a serviceable point guard, or Bobby Maze comes into his own, we ain't gettin any #1 seed. I'll even go as far as to say that if at least one of those two doesn't step up, we're not getting a #8 seed anywhere.

I'd obviously love to be wrong.

1) USC is not going to be a tough game by any stretch of the imagination, and if it is, UT is in for a horrible season. That program has been absolutely gutted.

2) There is no way in hell that Tennessee sweeps Kentucky or drills them in either game.

I am sure I could pick this apart further, but I am tired.

After taking a good look at the schedule, a conservative prediction would include losses to Kansas, @UK, @Vandy, @ Miss St., @ Florida, and @ SCe and 1 or 2 surprise losses when the other team is hot and/or we are cold. Obviously we could also win 1 or 2 of the aforementioned losses.

Our schedule actually lines up very well for a very hot start with 13-1 or 12-2 (depending on the early tourney matchups) very possible going into the Kansas game. 17-2 or 16-3 going into Vandy and Fla back to back at home and maybe 21-2 20-3 optimistically going into our first huge road game @ Vandy in February. Of course at that point you have 2 games vs UK, and FLA, SC, MSU away.

Overall optimistic 25-6 regular season and battling UK down to the wire for the East title (which will all come down to head to head). Pessimistic view says 23-8 or 22-9 if the defense and press and PG play does not improve.

I refuse to believe this team wins 25 games until I see some form of defense from anybody not named Ty Smith.

agreed. Also, I'd add that lack of direction on O will combine with lack of D to force us to shoot 60% to beat the good teams on our schedule. Good shooting overcame a lot of ills when we had Lofton and JSmith pulling the trigger.

We generally have the length and athleticism to be monstrous defenders, pressing or otherwise. I hope we put it to use.

To the OP- who is jealous and what are they jealous of?
one person here hates Pearl, period. It just makes him feel better to pretend that it's some huge group.

I think the vast majority actually like Pearl, as a person and coach. I certainly don't think anyone here is jealous, even though plenty of reasons exist to be so. The guy is clearly successful by most modern definitions. Further, the negative commentary on this site regarding Pearl has absolutely nothing to do with Jealousy. The OP is simply lost, as he regularly proves.

First of all, I apologize for the time you wasted in making up this pile of crap. I disagree with 90% of this post, but I'll only mention a few items.

1) J.P. Prince will be J.P. Prince, which is not comparable to Tayshaun or Granger. Not even close. We will all still cringe when J.P. dribbles or shoots the ball.

2.) Who magically learned to shoot the three? No doubt Hopson, Smith and Tatum should have improved this off-season, but I wouldn't count on a dramatic change.

3.) Tatum will play a large role on this year's team. I'm not saying he's going to average 18+ ppg, but he's going to do more than just "get his minutes."

4.) Brian Williams is obviously in the 9 or 10-man rotation.

5.) I wouldn't count on McBee seeing significant playing time, if any, this season.

Other than that... Go Vols! Hope they can be playing their best basketball in March a make a run to the Final Four.

Exactly. I don't make any attempt to mask my contempt for him. What I get a laugh out of is watching Bruce's Towel Boys try and claim anyone who criticizes Saint Bruce hates him.

I agree. Pearl is a good coach, and a good coach is all. He's not great, nor is he the man to lead us to the promise land in my opinion. I hope he proves me wrong, because I have loved the excitement he has brought to the program, but CBP has some flaws.

I will say this hat. I appreciate all you do on this board, and i'm not a big pearl supporter, but I don't understand why you have so much hate for the man. Saying he's not a good coach and saying you hate him are two different things.

No coach has ever led Tennessee to the "promise land." Bruce Pearl has and will continue to do what no other coach in Tennessee men's basketball history has done.

Some people may not like Bruce, but the simple fact is he has created an overachieving Tennessee men's basketball program. He's here to stay, or as long as he would like.

How is a program paying its coach 2 mil plus per with facilities to rival anyone's "overachieving" by getting knocked out in the first round of the NCAA Tournament?

The program itself is overachieving. Historically, Tennessee men's basketball fans haven't been too upset if the team doesn't make it to the Elite 8. I don't think there's any question Bruce has raised the bar.

What do you want, Hat? National Championships? You want Tennessee to join Kentucky, Carolina, and UCLA at the top of men's college basketball? Bruce might as well attempt to turn water to wine.

The ONLY reason we have some of the BEST facilities in the country are BECAUSE of Bruce and his success. I am not saying he is Wooden, but the man has been successful. Successful enough to garner enough interest from the Tennessee fanbase and donors to put 30+ million into the basketball facilities. Prior to his arrival are facilities were a joke. Practice in Stokely when there was a concert and Thompson Boling Caverns for games. The program has been elevated greatly. Are we done? No way. If we continue to get put out in the first round the next 3 years then Bruce will get some well-deserved heat. However I will hold judgment. This years team will go a long way in determining if Bruce has what it takes to take this team up another level. He will not and nor should be given and endless amount of time to move us into Elite 8 or Final 4 territory, but the success he has had has earned at least a wait and see for THIS year.

What was UCONN's history of accomplishment before Calhoun showed up? How many NCAA appearances had UMASS made before Cal got there? What had Cincinnati done in the 20 years before they hired Huggs? You people act as if what Pearl has done is some sort of unprecedented miracle. It's not.
