BBall Media Day your predictions

Bottom line. If you are going to profess yourself as some kind of expert/professional on a team's website, then spend years making thousands of nasty comments about their successful coach, guess what? You will get a ton of crap for it. It isn't a coincidence that supporters of a Vol coach are going to a site called volnation and taking offense at the comments.
The vast majority of any "crap" I'm getting comes from you and MikeHamiltonFruit. The last thing I'm concerned with are a couple of Pearl slurping Johnny Come Latelys whining that I'm too harsh on Maccabiah Bruce. Things were running fine before you got here, they're fine now, and they'll be even better when you're gone. You're little more than a less intelligent version of OrangeSquare. Your time here will end accordingly.

I think you give too much credit to Bruce and not enough to Mike Hamilton and John Curry or the supporters who paid for it.

What would you credit for the Neyland renovations, our success in football over the past 4 seasons?

Cotton

That is a good point of course. There is no way that the updates are completed with Hamilton. He has been great for that is all sports. However the is simply no way they were going to get the donations, the season ticket sales, or the luxury box promises without the success of Bruce. Of course in the end you have to credit the donors for the actual building costs. Of course if another coach had come in instead of Bruce, then the renovations probably would have been completed as well, but arguing that is just arguing. Bruce's success = better facilities.

You and hat are engaged in more insults than anyone on the forum.

You also bring nothing of substance to conversations about Pinkston, Harris or anyone else.

You can continue to make snide comments or you could try to actually make some predictions, offer some commentary on the program etc.

... or maybe we are just tired of you two and you constant whining? There is a small but incredibly annoying contingent of posters in the basketball forum that does absolutely nothing but whine about "Pearl haters" and how they are "pathetic" and "jealous." Grow up.

While we are at it, why don't you tell me exactly what you have brought to this forum? And I believe I told you Crawford was Memphis bound about 3 weeks before he committed... to Memphis. The second he did, you went from wanting him, to referring to him as "semi-literate." So tell me, what does being a complete hypocrite feel like?

I already shared my feelings on Harris and Pinkston. Harris lands at Syracuse and UT has a decent shot with Pinkston but he lands at 'Nova. I hope I am wrong about both.

Predictions and commentary for the season? Nothing new here, the lack of PG play and defense (unless improved) is going to make this team look a lot like last year. Experience is going to bail them out some, but they still lose 8 or more games. With a favorable draw and seeding, Tennessee can make it to the Sweet 16, but no further. I think the most likely scenario is a second-round exit.

You will find that I have already said pretty much all of this in other threads.

i have been out drinking for way to long for tonight, so tonight i tell the truth, even though it took me 20 times with spell check to do so.

you have offered nothing BUT criticism for HAT and others since you have been here. YOU have offered nothing but criticism since you have been here, but nothing beneficial the board.

I don't always agree with those you have issue with, but you could at least provide valid arguments against them, witch you don't. I'm going to bed, because the titans lost. night, night. Reply if you wish, I will get back to you tomorrow. :matrix:

Amen.

Amen. I think Pearl is a good coach as much as most fans out there, but I can't stand those posters who attack those who criticize him. Example, it gets very old seeing posters argue with hatvol for weeks on end because they get "offended" by hat's feelings about Pearl. I respect hat's opinion of the guy, even though sometimes I may not agree with it, and I respect even more hat's knowledge that he brings to this board. I just get tired reading endless posts by "Pearlophiles" who argue the same arguments to those who openly criticize Pearl.

Serious question Hat. I don't know the exact numbers but I only remember Huggins making one two or three year run and the final four in the early nineties. Since then he really hasn't done much. He also clearly has an alcohol problem. I know you're not a fan of Bruce, but do you really think Huggins would have been that much better? And if he had come here would he not have left to go back to his alma mater as soon as Mayo and company hit the road?

1. How many conference titles has Huggins won?
2. If Huggs "hasn't done much," what does that make Pearl's resume?
3. I'm always intrigued when people make judgments based on a single incident. Does Jon Gruden "clearly have an alcohol problem?"
4. If I weren't 100% convinced Huggs would have been a better option, I wouldn't keep mentioning it.
5. He couldn't have left if he wanted to coach that class. If he did leave, so what? Ask Kansas State if they regret having Huggs give them credibility again.

A Huggins lead UC squad would have won the National Title in 1998 if Kenyon Martin doesn't break his leg.

Yeah, and IF Jon Crompton learned how to throw a football before the Georgia game, UT would be sitting 5-1 right now instead of 3-3.

Most basketball analysts were saying the same thing. I would know I was in Kenyon's hotel room the night it happened and heard him being interviewed by every big cbball analyst out there...

You really shouldn't post mindless drivel on things you have no clue about. Makes you look dumb.

Although worded slightly different each time, this is one of the most overused phrases on Volnation.

Also, I don't disagree with you 100%, but UC had a good shot at winning the National Championship had Martin stayed healthy, but you can't say they would have won.

It just works so well sometimes!

I'm 95% confident we would have won it.:hi:

I just meant in the tournament. He hasn't made it past the sweet sixteen since 96. Bruce wins his conference pretty regularly too, not that the level of competition is comparable. And wasn't he essentially on probation from the school for the drinking when the "one incident" occurred?

Not saying the guy can't coach, but...

"Huggins has won more games than any other coach at Cincinnati, but his tenure also has been marked by player arrests and NCAA rules violations that landed the school on probation."

Just because K-State was happy to have him put them back on the map doesn't mean we should have. We have a basketball history before Bruce Pearl, as you so often bring up, remember?

He's only coached in a major conference for three years in his entire career.

If a league had John Calipari, Tom Crean, and Rick Pitino coaching in it, that makes it much better than the SEC was last year.

This is more than a bit sad...

You predicted Crawford to Memphis? A NY player will head to Syracuse? Jay Wright will get a prospect?

I mean I admit I have no inside info on our bball recruiting...I also do enjoy reading the posts on zags and others and link them sometimes.

I have been rather patiently waiting for some insight from hatvol that would justify the adoration of a UK fan and the others who show up here regularly and have not read anything yet.

I would like to get comments regarding personnel, development and offensive scheme.

I do enjoy reading various opinions on here, even ones I disagree with. What I like are discussions about our team, our players and other teams players.

Oh gimme a break, I said Crawford to Memphis when there were more than a few that were claiming UT lead.

As for Harris and Pinkston, I don't see any point in reaching when people who know a lot more about the situation than I do are saying the same thing.

Not so much adoration, but respect. However it seems that the concept of my remarks fly completely over your head. You show up in a thread and say " I wish we had a damn real INSIDER, and not this crap that HAT gives" blah blah blah. "He's not a real insider at all! Anyone can read blogs and post the information off as their own". These are remarks you have made, though not in exact words.

Maybe you don't like HAT. (obviously) Maybe you think his stuff is bogus. Thats not the point. Where at ANY POINT IN TIME have you offered anything of your own. I don't see you posting any interviews with high level college coaches. I don't see you doing much of anything, but complaining.

its like showing up at a potluck and b$%ching about the food, but all you brought yourself was a 2 liter. Playing tug-o-war but standing in the back while everyone else pulls and you fake it.

In this situation, it wouldn't matter if it were HAT or some other soul who I don't even know. Truth is, this really has nothing to do with HAT. He just happens to be the person involved. Its not about whether I have adoration or respect for anyone. Its about you.

Maybe my remarks went over your head, I am here to read about Vols basketball.

Waiting for vols insider info from Hatvol is like showing up at a barbecue looking for a steak or at least some great ribs or even just chicken and having the guy over the grill announce he is cooking all veggie burgers.

Jay Wright? I want to know about the TN Vols which is why I come to this board. Zagsblog and many others do a great job on Big East, I want to know about the team I cheer for. I want to know about our recruiting, I want to know about our assistant coaches. I would rather read on this board about Stephen Pearl's time with Grunfeld looking over the Sea of Galillee than read another crack about tanning bed followed by nothing of substance relating to the program I care about.

Enjoy having a slimeball run your program. Ashley Judd's greatness has been negated by Worldwide We$ and the Nike whores.

Looking back at this is fun...

USC was a tough game,
JP Prince has been playing good defense
TN has the record I said they would at this point and did beat Kansas, but I was wrong about who they would lose to.
TN does shoot the 3 much better this year, and McBee is playing.

I was dead wrong in that Tyler Smith will not be drafted.
It is going to be fun to watch the rest of the season even though TN will be different stylistically than the "Tennessee Basketball" we were thinking we would have without any players dismissed that would press a good bit and score 85 a game.

This change to a team that actually plays great defense and great rebounding could mean Pearl's most successful season.

I think this team will be significantly improved from last year, and I think while the SEC will be better, it will not be much better. KY has scary players, Vandy adds one player who to me is a matchup problem for us, but we could sleepwalk against UGA and beat them...

If we actually press and create turnovers that lead to easy buckets, and if our seniors realize they need to play defense, this team will be nasty.

JP does not have the injury excuse this year. Lets see those long arms shut someone down...

Why to you keep embarassing yourself? We are not doing any of the things you predicted. This is the most half-court play we have seen from Pearl. Despite not winning, Georgia is playing excellent basketball now and will be a difficult win on the road. Why don't you give up trying to impress folks when you are always wrong?

BVF, you correctly predicted that we would beat Kansas? You said at this point in the year we would have 2 losses?

Congratulations! I must have missed it.
