BCS Championship

Yea, no way you could create participants as clear as those other sports do. Fusion would be easier to figure out than that.

I'm glad someone understands. I'm so pleased I'll withdraw from the wide receiver argument in the other forum.

How "clear cut" are the at large teams for the NCAA hoops tourney?

When you have 8x the number of participants, I think it is a lot easier to make sure all the nation's top teams are included. Sure a couple of teams sneak in that don't really belong, but they are usually removed quickly.

The thing is though, the real controversial picks for the NCAA tournament are usually at best #8 or 9 seeds who don't have a shot at winning anyway.

Nope . . . There are hardly ever more than 3 teams that have a legitimate argument.
Exactly. The only thing I don't like about the "and 1" system is that occasionally it would force a team to play a game to win a championship they've already earned. For example, UT shouldn't have had to play another game in '98.

So you have a 4 team playoff, who's the 4 teams?

1. OSU
2. Mich
3. Florida
4. Arkansas
5. USC
6. ND
7. Lousivlle
8. West Virginia

its not so clearcut, with a playoff it is.

That's true. You'd have to add some special stipulations in there.

No ACC or Big Twelve teams, but 2 Big East teams?

That's easy . . . It's OSU, Michigan, the USC/Notre Dame winner and the Florida/Arkansas winner.

so louisville goes over rutgers? i know they just lost to cincy, but still... what about wisconsin? the fact that boise st isn't in as tough a conference? they still went undefeated and you're putting a two loss arkansas or florida ahead of them... ummm, ermmm, still lots of people upset

I don't. Nor do I think Texas does. However, there would be some arguing to the contrary.
I think the ACC would keep their mouths shut. They wouldn't want to call any more attention to how pathetic their conference is this season.

What about Rutgers?

The thing that's missing from anything other than a playoff is forcing the NC winner to win a series of games against the proven top competition. Anything else leaves so much void.

The schedules, matchups and timing are so different across the board that sorting it out strictly through the regular season is pure guesswork.

You're right. Volmanbill made a more convincing argument toward the same point I was going for. Just check that out.

It works in basketball and baseball because the sports lend themselves to playing more games in a short period of time.

Your logic being, don't want to try something new, because it won't solve everything.

Moeller High of Cincinnati has as much business being discussed in the National Title picture as Boise State. I can't wait for those goofs to play Texas or OU in the Fiesta Bowl and get beat 1,974 to -5.

What about 100% of all the other levels of football that make it work? What's so special about Div I-A that can't do what the rest of the free world can?
