BCS Debate

I'm not buying the"need to win your conference to play for the NC" argument. some conferences are harder than others. If there was an undefeated team in another conference then id see the argument. But everyone except lsu has a loss. bamas loss is to the highest ranked opponent. Why should a team that lost to unranked iowa state play in the NC and the team that lost to #1 not?

Chris Fowler killed it on Twitter last night. A sample:

"Latest chapter in the supreme comedy of the BCS system: not a single game on the final Saturday impacts title game matchup. Defend that."

It's one of those years where the old system would have worked better. Honestly, can we just give it to LSU if they beat UGA? Regardless, I'm sure Alabama (win or lose) will do all they can to lay some claim to the trophy.

It is impossible to know for certain that Bama and LSU are the two best teams. That is just people's opinions, and it's based on the SEC's dominance of the BCS title game in past seasons.

This was not a typical SEC season. The SEC was very top-heavy and then watered down. Bama may be the 2nd-best team, but it is impossible to know that for sure.

OSU should be in the title game if they beat OU. If they're not, then the voters will have made a very unfair and incorrect decision.

I agree with the above. Bama and LSU are clearly the two best teams, then you have Arkansas who is still a solid BCS-caliber type team (even though they won't make one).

Georgia will have three losses to the only good teams they played, SCar doesn't look much better then there's a bunch of garbage. In spite of the Bama-LSU title game, definitely a down year for the SEC.

osu? The same osu that lost to unranked iowa state?

It seems like damn near everybody with a vote is willing to forgive Okie Lite for that loss given the circumstances. It was a terrible, terrible situation and my prayers still go out to the effected, but a loss to a team like Iowa State really ought to eliminate a team from the national title discussion most years.

The same osu that would win their conference with the same record as that alabama team that finished 3rd overall in theirs. If osu wins they are more deserving to go but they'll most likely get left out.

Ridiculous. Forget the names or situations for a moment, because conference championships have no bearing on the BCS standings.

Team A:
11-1 with single loss to #1 team in the country in overtime

Team B:
11-1 with single loss to .500 team sneaking into a bowl game against Marshall or somebody like that

Who should be ranked higher?

Even if you used that logic alabama has already had their shot on their home field. They bllew it.

Winning the CONFERENCE doesn't warrant going to the NATIONAL championship. There are a lot of other teams winning their conference. Should they go also?

Id agree if iowa state was good.

If they are in a major conference with the same or better record then yes they would also be deserving.

id agree if conferences were equally difficult

A major conference is a major conference in my eyes. So if a team wins their conference they should have more of a right than someone who couldn't win their own division.

Whether or not it's a rematch also has no bearing. I disagree with that, but it is what it is. Under the BCS rules, the two best teams play for the title. Conference championships, division titles, head to head matchups, rematches, etc. don't matter.

It's really stretching to say any other team in the nation is on Bama or LSU's level.

I petition tennessee to join the big east

I think even VolBuck knows the Big Least doesn't count as a major conference. The voters don't seem to view it that way anymore either.

A champion means you're the best. If you cant win your division, you cant win your conference that means you are not the best. As nice as it is to have these two SEC teams up there Bama doesnt have a dog in the fight.

All this will clear up next week. Bama's big problem is they dont play while OSU, VaT, and Stanford all play. Idle teams tend to stay and active teams leap them. If OSU wins, they go to #2. OSU loses and VaT wins, Hokies jump to 2. Stanford next.

Why is ESPN bringing it up? Because contraversy sells, conformity doesnt

You're going to be extremely disappointed if you expect a team like Virginia Tech to jump Alabama.

If LSU and OSU win, and Bama is placed in the national title game, it will be solely because of the SEC's recent dominance in national title games. That is the reason LSU and Bama are perceived to be so much better than the rest of the nation. I think it's incredibly unfair for Bama to be #2 right now.[/QUOTE]

And if ut had only one loss for the year by only 3 pts. in overtime you would think it was unfair for them to be #2?

A team that got beat by an unranked team should be in the nc over a team that has one loss to the #1 team by 3 pts.?
