College careers mean almost nothing when it comes to determining how good a player really is. T'eo won every major award and the much talked about ND d was ran over like nothing even T'eo! Just like in academics, you can have the best grades and be student body president, etc., etc., but that doesn't mean you have what it takes to perform in the professional world if you just don't have the skills. Same concept, great college player doesn't automatically translate to great pro. look at Tebow. I felt sorry for T'eo as it was bvious he wouldn't be able to be a starter in the nfl. he is a special teams player at best. In the sec there are 3rd team all sec players who will be all pros and play for 10+ years! Your TRUE ability is what counts and that isn't in stats, and how swagged out you are on college game day.

Simply pent up demand by Yankee Media Types praying the Golden Domers would be back! At the end of the day, he hurt himself in the Draft. Soft!! Slow!!:ermm:

The NFL and college are two different games. Are you a fan of the school or are you a fan of the player? The school's job is to win games. The player wants to get to the pros. If the two combine, all the better.

I doubt there are too many UF fans ashamed of Tebow. He was on 2 NC teams and won a Heisman. What he does or doesn't do in the NFL has no bearing on UF. There have been quite a few UF qb's over the past 20+ years that weren't "NFL" talents but kicked the crap out of the SEC.

For years, back in the 90's, Vandy had a very good D and sent quite a few players to the pros. Vandy, of course, sucked.

Players like Manning (both), Peterson, etc. excelled at both levels. That's what makes them special.

Tebow was a system player. That is why he has not faired well in the NFL.

Actually, every q.b. is a system player though. Could you imagine Manning running the system that RG II runs?

I guess I don't really get the point of the OP. We could crank a list that would never end of VERY good college football players that had very little success at the NFL level. It's been that way since the NFL existed.

Further, a BUNCH of the names on that list would be SEC players and players from many other conferences that were thought of as power conferences at the time.

The other side of the coin is the guys you never heard of coming from schools you only see on the ticker across the bottom the screen on game day who play in the NFL for 15 years. That happens also.

But, neither is a slight of Notre Dame or any other school.

RG II played football too? Must be an inherited thing for RG III.

If we can't tell by college whether or not a player is gonna be good, then how would we know that Teo isn't gonna be good in pros?...I mean we can't tell be college so.......

Sorry, but Te'o is still a good pro prospect. He never was and never will be burner, but he'll be a good heady LB at the next level. Probably not Probowl material, but decent at the next level. He can't win a game by himself, though and his Dline got pushed around bad.

After Monday night I don't see it. Lacy and Yeldon are NFL calibre backs and he couldn't catch or tackle either one. There are 30 more backs better than that in the NFL.

His life story and school got him the hype. 10 tackles on 40+ running plays by the best defensive player in the country? Please, I'd take AJ over him

I think that the quote that I read and liked best was that Te’o was Hawaiian for Brian Bosworth.

It made me laugh. :)

Maybe he just had a bad game, I didn't see any other ND games this year, but I'm not sure you can put all this on him. In order for a LB to have an impact, it requires a strong D-line to occupy the offensive lineman. Bama's line slaughtered ND's d-line without having to double team. That means T'eo wasn't free to roam around. He was in position at times and definitely missed tackles, but I don't think I would go so far as to say he won't start in the NFL and will only be a special teams player.

It wasn't a knock on ND. Just to show the point that just because people have the espn hype machine behind them and they get all these stats in college doesn't mean the are THAT good! Against real competition it shows.

No way is he an nfl starter. He's a backup and special teams player.

You could put Ray Lewis out there with ND's defense and they would have still gotten creamed. One man does not a football team make. Also, one performance doesn't make or break a player's ability. He's still one of the first people off of Mel Kiper's big board. I'll take his assessment over yours.

He got ran over by rb in the open field and the hole. In college. nfl rb are even better than that. Plus he would get lit up in ass coverage.

Ray Lewis in College would have made almost all those tackles in the backfield and open field. And Kiper's board will change after this.

Ray Lewis is a decidedly better LB, but ND would have still got rolled. I doubt he drops out of the first round no matter how bad this one performance was.

A lot of T'eo's missed tackles looked like they were due to him overcompensating for the rest of his team. He jumped the gun on way too many plays and ended up looking like a fool. Also, Bama knew T'eo was the only one they needed to worry with on ND's defense and no doubt had studied all his quirks -- that all goes a long way to making someone look ridiculous.
