I can't imagine how much worse it would have felt to have seen Pearl wearing a crimson blazer instead. Finebaum and the Bammer callers on his show are mad at Battle for not making the same bold move that Auburn made. They are going to start a 6th year with Grant and see no promise of anything better.

You have to give the Auburn AD some credit. They are always determined not to be outdone by Bama and they don't mind what somebody else says or thinks about their methods. They will fire a coach who won a national championship if he begins slipping and they see an opportunity to pull the trigger for somebody else available that they want.

They are partying down in LA. He's B-a-c-k. Cheeks wasn't rehiring him even if Hart was for it, imo. Watcha think? Pearl wanted to coach again and redeem his rep. Auburn knew what they wanted and didn't waste a second going after it.

Auburn likes to win. Tennessee likes to extort their fans.

Yep, pretty much this. They certainly know how to hire winners and how to get rid of losers (as soon as they become losers, see - Chizik, Tubberville, Bowden...no waiting around years to see if they can turn it around)

I think their fierce rivalry with Alabama actually helps them and forces the AD to pursue winning at all costs.

We've been so far behind Bama and UF for so long, that seeing them have success apparently doesn't phase the powers that be now. Sucks for us.

I agree, it would've been worse had he been a 'bama hire, instead of Auburn.

I have a friend who's an Auburn grad. Talked with him yesterday and he's already talking about buying b-ball season tix...never has before. Also talked about how he'd put Malzahn and Pearl up against any f-ball and b-ball coaching tandem in the league. Hard to argue that.

Still think it would've been cool to have Bruce and Butch running the show at the same time.

I hate that he is at Auburn. If he does terrible there then great, but if he is successful (like he has been everywhere) then it's going to be miserable.

I live in Alabama and they are already annoying me down here.

One has to give Auburn credit, when the Tigers want to win their Administration and fan base support their efforts 100% regardless of the public fallout.

It would have been horrific if we had to stomach him revving up the fans at Bama in a bright crimson blazer. I live down here and I know their fans have been wanting a change bad, and Pearl's name has been mentioned too frequently for comfort. No kidding, they are upset at Bill Battle today on the talk shows for not making the same move that Auburn made. It's really under their skin. I'm relieved it wasn't Bama more than upset it was Auburn.

The guy I was referring to lives in Mobile and about half the office are 'Bama fans, and the other half Auburn fans (with 1 Tenn fan, interestingly enough).

He's saying same thing you are...the 'Bama fans are pi$$ed about the hire.

From a Tenn fan's perspective...I guess anytime a 'Bama fan is pi$$ed, it's a good thing.

The bad thing is that Auburn is a team where we could always depend on getting a win or two depending on how many times we played them. Now that is gonna change. It just got tougher to be a Tennessee Vol.

What would have been catastrophic is if a blue blood program opened up like UK and he got the job. He will win at Aubie but not championships. At UK, all it takes is a coach and someone with charisma. UK recruits itself..... At least he's not in the East.

Had nothing to lose and they definitely don't care about cheating.

Not that it matters, but I don't think there's an 'East' anymore in b-ball.
Either way, I'm glad he didn't end up at KY as well. He could win and win big there.

I like Bruce Pearl. Wished we had him. I hope he wins a national championship for Auburn and then I can say I told you so.

Further:

Tennessee wants to do as little as they must to guarentee certain attendance and product sales. We are consumers to them and if they can get away with serving us salibury steak and calling it fillet thats exactly what they will do.

you will never see boldness from this administration...youll never see hubris. Winning isnt important so long as the consumers consume.

Yep. I'm convinced Dooley would still be here if there wasn't half empty stadiums his last year. The only thing that the AD cares about is the bottom line.
