Be glad it was Auburn

They abuse our loyalty to deliver a subpar product knowing people will spend money anyway.

They do try, but most of us are smart enough not to spend as much money on the current product as we did when our investment was producing a much bigger return.

Further:

Tennessee wants to do as little as they must to guarentee certain attendance and product sales. We are consumers to them and if they can get away with serving us salibury steak and calling it fillet thats exactly what they will do.

you will never see boldness from this administration...youll never see hubris. Winning isnt important so long as the consumers consume.

This is true. The only time coaches at UT are fired is when it is financially beneficial to the AD. That's why I fully expect Cuonzo back. Attendance while not great has been ok. The only way to affect change is to quit buying tickets. Unfortunately that's the only way to get them to do anything. Now keep in mind if/when they fire Cuonzo, they'll go get another coach on the cheap because they know Tennessee fans will give the new coach the benefit of the doubt until three years in. Then they'll do it all over again. It's their formula.

I love how, in the midst of our unwavering praise of Auburn's athletic department, we forget how unproven their football hires were. One went 5-19 at Iowa State and the other had exactly one year of head coaching experience.

But somehow, it's a sign of an AD that goes "all in". They weren't exactly breaking the bank themselves.

Yep. I'm convinced Dooley would still be here if there wasn't half empty stadiums his last year. The only thing that the AD cares about is the bottom line.

Undoubtedly. If Dooley beat Mizzou, he would be here through the 2014 season at least. He would have got a pass this year after losing the entire offense after 2012.

I thought you were thinking Zo takes a job elsewhere?

I think it's still a possibility from what I'm hearing. My comment was based on if he can't find something he likes elsewhere. Regardless, I have no confidence that Dave Hart would hire anybody any better than Cuonzo. We'll not see any emphasis on being competitive athletically until Dr. Cheek is gone. Dave Hart may be the best AD in the country. Unfortunately he's not calling the shots. Dave Hart is approaching 70 years old. This is his last stop. He's not worried about his reputation. Cheek hand picked him to be his yes man.

What I've been saying all day.

If you're not gonna hire a proven coach, just stick with Zo.

They did for Cam Newton. :)

It's sad that Cheek and company take the UT fan base for granted. Many on here said Auburn has the worst fan base in the SEC. They won't support basketball. However, they've shown a better commitment to basketball than the UT administration. Now, before you and others jump on me about being a Pearl worshiper, this has nothing to do with Pearl. You can't argue that they are emphasizing basketball more that the folks on the hill. They've invested in a coach at a much higher rate. They could have done it the UT way and went out and found a new upstart coach and spent $1.5M but instead they spent $2.2 on what they perceive as a proven winner. As long as we put 12-15K in the seats at TBA the UT administration is fine. People want to dictate change over there, quit buying tickets. Money drives these decisions.

Oh I agree

I have said that Hart should've been paying attention because Jacobs just gave a free lesson as to how you go about a coaching change.

I can't imagine how much worse it would have felt to have seen Pearl wearing a crimson blazer instead. Finebaum and the Bammer callers on his show are mad at Battle for not making the same bold move that Auburn made. They are going to start a 6th year with Grant and see no promise of anything better.

You have to give the Auburn AD some credit. They are always determined not to be outdone by Bama and they don't mind what somebody else says or thinks about their methods. They will fire a coach who won a national championship if he begins slipping and they see an opportunity to pull the trigger for somebody else available that they want.

They are partying down in LA. He's B-a-c-k. Cheeks wasn't rehiring him even if Hart was for it, imo. Watcha think? Pearl wanted to coach again and redeem his rep. Auburn knew what they wanted and didn't waste a second going after it.

Yep Bama fans wanted him for sure..but I guess we will have to stick with football..

If Auburn can pay $2.2M then TN should be able to spend $4.4M with the resources we have. To be honest I think it will be 10-15 years before things get straightened out over there. My 14YO has no idea of what being a UT fan in good times feels like.

I think Auburn is lucky they got him when they did because his alma mater (Boston College) canned their coach yesterday and I could've seen them hire him.
