Be glad it was Auburn

Still feel like Auburn is a truck stop for Pearl. Either way by year 2 or 3 Auburn will be competitive.

Auburn likes to win. Tennessee likes to extort their fans.

No, they're ignoring us. Can't believe they didn't make a deal with Bruce ... serve your three years suspension, we'll hire an interim coach, and then we'll accept you back. How hard would that have been to do? Then we got our program back. You know Sean Payton, the New Orleans coach who got suspended a year for the head-hunting scandal, came back and they welcomed him with open arms after the year was up.

You are correct Nehi. TN had to make a bold and decisive move in this situation. Auburn did it!

#1 You have to release Cuonzo from his contract at season's end. Let him finish the season lame duck if necessary. It's not dishonorable, but business done by contract. CCM would have gotton coin out of UT breaking contract early. It was agreed upon when he signed.
#2 You pre-negotiate and hire CBP and help bring in a staff that can recruit until August.
#3 You make $ure to spend whatever is necessary like Auburn to get it done. You cannot let one of the top two coaches in your school's history just walk-away to a rival when you can get him back and not even move him out of his residence.
#4 You figure out how you're gonna get everybody in TBA and build a new vault for the cash that's coming.

Our admins are lost in a fog and this situation just exposed it again.

The state of Alabama is horrible and among the worst places on Earth for a multitude of reasons that don't involve Bruce Pearl being the new HC at Auburn.

Auburn fan here, with a somewhat related question:

What's the story on Jerry Green? I never heard but it seemed odd when Tennessee fired him after 4 straight seasons of 20+ wins and 4 straight NCAA tourney appearances, including a Sweet 16 in 1999-2000 when y'all went 26-7. But after a 22-11 year in 2000-2001, you guys let him go for Buzz Peterson.

What happened? I lived in Nashville at the time and don't recall any major problems. Why'd he get fired?

Green did not have a very endearing personality and he lost the (a very talented) team in his last year. The most fan-referenced reason was his comment on fans' criticism and commented on the radio something to the effect that if Tennessee fans didn't like it, they could go to K-Mart instead. This link gives a pretty good historical summary. Tennessee Moments of the Decade #9: The Rise and Fall of Jerry Green - Rocky Top Talk

Congrats on the BP hire. He will work hard to get the students, alumi and fans involved. If y'all can't fill that new arena with BP as coach, then there is no hope for BBall in the Plains.

I wanted Bruce Pearl back as much as anyone (read my posts on the petition thread) but some of the comments on here are really bizarre... It was Bruce Pearl's actions that got him fired at Tennessee. He simply didn't have to lie about his stupid cookout in Sept. of '08 and compound it by calling Craft's dad "to get their story straight". Craft was already in the fold at Ohio State and had no incentive to lie for Bruce at that point. I love Pearl but that was just stupid on top of being unethical. He should still be the coach here but it is his fault that he's not - not Hart, Cheek or even that goober Hamilton....Finally, if some people on here are going to use a word such as extortion it wouldn't hurt to at least know what it means.
