Be honest, how many are not surprised at all by the outcome of the Bama game?

You say they aren’t very good yet they just keep winning. Great teams find ways to win. Just like us in 1998. How many would say that team was as powerful as the 3 before it? Not many. But they kept winning.
They can say Bama isn't very good but bottom line is they are still a top tier football team. They haven't been dominating like they used to, but their entire team still knows how to keep winning and has the talent to do so.

I thought we’d win and I still think we’d win with fair officiating and a healthy roster. We didn’t have the depth to overcome losing Mincey and Hadden.
I think our WR corp was way over hyped this offseason. We are just not good there as a whole. Yes we have Squirrel, but when he gets double covered we have noone.

Absolutely. Thornton has been a complete no-show, Keyton has been the most inconsistent he's ever been, and Bru had a season-ending injury. Considering all that, one would think Webb and Leacock (our two most highly ranked WR recruits in the past two cycles) would have made an impact by now.

Instead, we have only two active receivers (Squirrel and Keyton) with 10 catches OR 100 yards on the year.

The only team in the league with less production than Tennessee from their WRs is Auburn. Anyone who says they are not surprised by that is probably lying.

I also think Heupel doesnt trust Young talent. He likes the veteran guys in there and he doesnt rotate WRs alot. May have to change that as we dive into the back half of our schedule. The young talent we have on this team is good enough to beat Kentucky, Mizzou, Vandy. Kinda weird tho, Heupel is known to have elite WR play be 1 or 2 guys a year.

I really feel like Vol fans should not travel to Tuscaloosa the next time we play there. Don’t spend money on game tickets, hotel and gas for a game that refs are going to ruin. The Vol fans that went there for this last game should be paid back every penny they spent by the University of Alabama.

frankly, I am probably more surprised at the first half than the second.

We are not a great team. We don’t know how to close.

We have a lot of good pieces of a great team but just not there because of some serious weaknesses.

Milton is A problem but he is not THE problem by himself.

Let me rephrase… when I say this isn’t a very good Bama team I’m speaking in comparison to the previous 10ish years. They are still immensely talented which makes up for a lot of their deficiencies. They aren’t “bad” by any means.

Alabama was favored by over a TD. They won the game because they were the better team. Vols did a great job getting a lead in the 2nd half but it was no surprise that Alabama made the needed adjustments and their talent and depth took over in the 2nd half.

Serious queston: how many Vols would start for Alabama on either side of the ball?

By the outcome, no. By how different we looked from one half to the next, yes. By how blatantly one sided the officiating was, not at all.

In a pick-em I was in I had Bama 30-20...so I was close. Pleasantly surprised in the first half and thought and ever said that kicking FGs wasn't going to win my game. Fulmer learned that while kicking FGs while SOS was scoring TDs at Florida.....I was even more surprised how outplayed and out coached we were the second half.

How on God's green earth can you win when the officials don't do their job and help the other team out
Here’s a man that lives in reality. Baron was held in a choke hold while Milroe had plenty of time to throw that touchdown pass. If refs call holding and push them back maybe they don’t score there. There was a lot more holding from Bama than just that play. Maybe Bama still wins on a clean called game but we will never know.

After viewing the 1st Half I was really excited for the team's improvement against Bama @ Bama.

2nd Half was a complete let down as they were not prepared to Win the 2nd Half.

very disappointing 2nd Half performance.

I was shocked at the complete collapse in the second half. Even up 20-7 I was not confident but expected us to hang tough. Very disappointing

Surprised, not shocked. We were playing a team with a much better roster…not debatable, at their house. We know the home cooking with the refs is always on the stove in Tuscaloosa. And most importantly, they are still Alabama…with likely the greatest college coach of all time. It would have taken a monumental effort to overcome…but it was in our grasp. I expected to win. We should have won. But the hill was a little more than we could climb on that given day.

The surprise comes in the collective hysteria afterward. We are getting there. The culture is changing. Other programs expectations and perception of us is changing. I’m enjoying the ride.

I am curious if anyone else was not at all surprised by the outcome of the bama game.
I wasn't surprised. I didn't get to see the 1st half but still wasn't surprised because I expected the Refs to protect Bama. To me, that was a given. If Bama had been performing as they usually do it wouldn't have to have been so blatant, but the refs came through, as I expected. You can't tell me any half-way objective person couldn't see the obvious bias--Bama gets 5 yards in penalties. You don't even have to watch the game, just look at the stats.

Not really. That's Alabama and they don't quit ever. But you know what? They don't mark us down as an automatic win anymore either and it hasn't been like that in a long time.

I know we're losing a lot of seniors and it seems like everyone is already writing off next season because of that but I'm not. I'm looking forward to Alabama coming back to Knoxville. I'd love to see us put a beatdown type score on them.
Don't let them bring their own refs.

I need more context. Surprised by the end result being a loss? No I’m not surprised, I picked us to lose 4 at the beginning of the year, one of which being Bama. However, surprised we came out like we did and then screwed the pooch due to coaching and not players? Yes, definitely surprised by that one!

Before the game, I thought we would have to play an almost perfect game to win. After the first drive foe a TD and the way the defense was playing, I thought we had a40-60 chance to win. After we failed to get CDs on the next two drives when we had first and goal, I told my wife and posted on the board, we would have a tough time winning the game Those eight points we failed go get was an indicator of how the game would go. However, I did not expect to be shut out in the second half. It seemed the attitude of both teams changed at half time. Alabama players seemed to want the game more than our players did and it showed. One one could see the difference, especially on the two tries on fourth down in the second half. We need to get the killer instinct this Saturday to beat Kentucky and I believe we will. I see us winning Saturday.
