Be honest, how many are not surprised at all by the outcome of the Bama game?

I'm never surprised when we lose in Gainesville and i was far more shocked that we were dominating Alabama in Tuscaloosa at the half. I was not shocked that we lost the game. I figured 9-3/8-4 this season was the most likely outcome and this was one of the losses I expected.

Apparently some people really thought we could lose probably the best passing quarterback we've ever had, the most productive single season receiver we've ever had, another excellent receiver, and a top 10 NFL draft pick offensive lineman off a team still in rebuilding mode, and we'd be anything close to what we were last season and maybe better. Those people live in an alternate reality.
Did you start watching the Vols two years ago? Hooker is good but he’s not the best passing QB we’ve had. Ever heard of Peyton Manning?

Wasn’t surprised by the outcome but the way that we collapsed in the 2nd half after starting out so strongly was less expected.

However, I have seen this program continue to find new and creative ways to lose over the last 15+ years, so it wasn’t really a shock.

Without reading all the other responses: I was not surprised. I see Tennessee as still growing, and learning how to be champions. The third year seems to often be the last hurdle for a new coach, in building a new program. I think we will get there, but away games against top 20 teams are still going to be difficult for us (except for Kentucky!).

I wasn’t surprised Bama would get a few calls and got the W. I was very surprised the officiating would be so blatantly one-sided. It was insane.
This the Officials made sure Bama won this game . Did Bama need this much help I do not know but is was as one sided of a game as I have ever seen .

Hooker was a better passer than Manning. I attended every game Peyton played here. Hooker was a better passer here than Manning. The eyes and stats both bear it out. Hooker finished his college career with 80 touchdowns and 12 ints. Manning, 89 and 33 ints. Hooker's QBR was 178.6 here, Manning's was 147.1. Hooker's QBR was higher at Va Tech than Peyton's was here. Manning completed 62 percent of his passes here, Hooker 69. I love Peyton Manning. But 58 tds and 5 interceptions by Hooker is something we haven't seen before and probably won't see again.

And if you watched Peyton, a well placed ball was his calling card, they didn't arrive all that pretty. Hooker was better with placement and threw a much better looking pass. I'm not saying any of this to down Peyton, but Hooker was absolutely that amazing.

Fact, but hard for some to grasp.

Not really. There seems to be a pattern of taking a half off on the road. Got punked at UF in the first half and punked at Bama in the second half. Other than the LSU anamaly last year they're hot garbage on the road. That's why this weekend makes me laugh when peolpe are already putting that one in the win column. Who trusts Joe Milton to lead a game winning drive? Or put trust in this team at all on the road.

when refs let us play we beat them soundly...when refs stepped in we didn't. so...it's about what i expected.
Agree. I always thought the refs make mistakes but never knew the game was rigged the way it is. I’ll never look at the sport the same again.

The rule on the kick off was a fair call. People need to read the entire rule and application. Dee and the other player should have been taught by the coaches not to do that, it sucked but it was another bad mental lapse. That falls directly on the coaching staff.
Fair call and what happened on Saturday don't go in the same sentence. And if the damned eagle-eyed officials did get that one call correct they surerthanshit missed 8 other ones.

Everything falls directly on the coaching staff. Win, or lose. The coaches get the credit or blame.

How on God's green earth can you win when the officials don't do their job and help the other team out
We were winning the first half. Now why? Because we were executing and Heupel was coaching. Second half? Heupel went on vacation and the team stopped executing at a high level.

Without a doubt they missed a bunch in wide open view. Yes the coaches deserve a lot of the blame for what appeared to be players not knowing the rules.

I am curious if anyone else was not at all surprised by the outcome of the bama game.

I'm never surprised at outcomes of games. Been way too many games in my lifetime that I witnessed and they went a way that very few people felt they would. Outcomes should never be a surprise.

Everyone was shocked. I don't blame the refs. If offensive had kept the foot on the gas the defense could have too. Easily winnable, game even at Tuscaloosa. Heupel has learned from his mistakes, and will play differently the rest of the year
