Look, I admit I was not really happy when I first heard about Butch Jones, I'm still ticked about many things really more to do with Hart. But enough of this Pollyanna your not a VFL if you're not a pom pom shaking sheeple sucking up to how great our situation is.

I will also admit reading more and more about Butch Jones, he does seem like a solid coach that may have potential. He may even have more going for him then Dooley..... or he may not. The reality is no one based on anything known so far can say wether he will or will not be the greatest hire since DD. Maybe he's the next Neyland, and maybe it takes more then a buzz cut to size up to the general.

But what I also know is Hart doesn't really have the slightest clue either. We went 3 and out with hiring and we punted....maybe it will be good maybe it will be bad, will take 3-4 years to even know, because this was not the sort of hire that will exactly shake up the recruiting trail.

Either way though HART gave perhaps the worst performance in this search that is possible. And no that has nothing to do with any Gruden rumors....it was just a really lack luster search.

But this Pollyanna bit about just how happy happy joy joy joy things are going.....just stop it. I may have to swallow and hope for best, but I don't have to like it....

Don't question my loyalty to a school which I actually went to and have loved every day of my life just because these antics make me nauseous.

and I esp don't have to like the direction Hart and Cheek are taking us....I care cause this school has mattered to me from day one, and will matter to me long after those two work somewhere else. VFL!

I agree with the first half of your post. But neither you, nor I, truly know even 1% of everything that Hart did in his coaching search. All we know is that the program is in shambles, they are still paying Fulmer on top of Dooley, and that they were turned down by 3 other coaches. But, all the reasons as to why UT was turned down are unknown to us and I, for one, am willing to bet that it wasn't all Harts fault.

if your mad at Hart your mad at the wrong guy. Cheeks is the problem and Hart has been working on the solution.

Cheeks is the person that has hurt our football program.

Remember we have no defense, so when we punt it is an automatic score for our opponent. So...This hire is a touchdown for all the other SEC teams. They are THRILLED with this hire.

That is not what I have heard, I hope you're right.

I dont care if he was our 87th choice......he was the right choice and that is all that matters.

We were crazy to not ask Butch before Strong in the first place.

Butch has beat Strong head to head 2/3 times. (Almost 3/3)

The whole "real fan" thing goes both ways though. You don't like people saying you're less of a fan for talk of no longer donating or going to games, switching teams you support, whatever it may be. I find it annoying that people talk about "accepting mediocrity " with this hire when he was only hired today! We know nothing yet! And the child like behavior of those posting classless things on coach jones' twitter is flat out embarrassing. Did I expect Jones to be the man when this started? No. But I'm going to support him until we know if he's truly our Guy or not.

This guy came from the Big East and MAC. He has no idea how to recruit in the big leagues and if coaches don't want to come to Tennessee what makes you sunshine pumpers think players will? This will be the worst recruiting class in many years and we will be looking for a new coach after 3 more years of 5-7 seasons. When the excuses run out again another change will be made, but the empty seats at Neyland may make that sooner rather than later.

Kirby Smart would've been the punt.

What we've got is an experienced, winning head coach who has spent his time focused entirely on the operation of his football program. He's a leader of men and the men in his charge will run through brick walls for him. He's someone who actually wants to coach football, wants to coach it at Tennessee, and will work extended hours to be a success.

In short, he is everything Dooley was not.

I'm conflicted about the future of Tennessee football. I know Butch Jones will bust his ass for Tennessee. I know Dave Hart will do what he can to see that effort pay off; he's now on the line with this hiring.

But I can see Booger Eater and his minions saying one thing to UTAD and Jones, then proceding to head off in the anti-athletic direction they've been heading for the last several years.

I came away from the tweets of our current players, the comments of his former players and the press conference wanting Jones to succeed and buying in to his mission statement for Tennessee football. I liked his emphasis on teaching going hand in hand with recruiting in evaluation of potential assistants. Also appreciated his plan to focus efforts on winning recruiting battles in-state. We've gotten good players from Tennessee, especially on offensive lines where Tennesseans formed the foundation of strong balanced attacks.

This "punt" of ours could work out--especially if the people in the lines of authority over Jones give him the support necessary to win in this conference.

usually you coach at a smaller program and work your way up, think maybe you should go back and look at other programs coaches paths. UT is a little different, went from Johnny to Phil, then lil kiffy to dools. sometimes you gotta start over...Go Vols!!!

Brian Kelly came from the big east as well. Pretty sure he never had a class there ranked above 50 or so. He currently has the number 3 class nationally. Recruiting to Cincinnati is different than recruiting to Tennessee. I don't think you understand recruiting.

G Guy you may be right but I don't think so. Will he have us in the title game in 3 yrs. prolly not, will we be a better team in 3 yrs. hell yeah. May not be what everybody wants but it's a start and right now that's all we can hope for.

I am being honest and we didn't punt. Just because a bunch of fans called out a few names and the final hire was none of those doesn't mean we punted. You answer this honestly.... What more could the guy have done in three years at one school and three years at another? This may turn out to be a bad hire but there is no way in hell you can tell that by his coaching history!

That's why I called it a punt. You DON't know...and after 4 years of fail....I was hoping for a conversion.

I don't disagree with a single thing you said about Jones....but that doesn't change the fact this was a desperate punt, from admin who fired a coach without a followup game plan. If it works out great, but it's a punt....and we haven't been getting alot of stops lately.
