Bearden RB Devrin Young Commits to Tennessee!

I was following you till you mentioned GAC, then I lost interest..I would take any player from Tucker before GAC

Haha true, I only said GAC, because of Caleb King. Plus the Chapple brothers. I played Tucker back in the day when I played for the Alpharetta Eagles youth teams. They were extremely athletic!

Brilliant. The goal is a stable program chalked full of 2 and 3* players capable of beating UAB in double overtime.

Obviously, you know how to lose.

Tell me you're kidding. And tell me UT doesnt give an MBA to anyone that can pay tuition. Like most of your posts. FAIL.

Having been around the recruiting process of plenty of big time prospects on the basketball side of things, fans rate somewhere between the quality of the University Center food court and the number of plies in the dorm room toilet paper in a player's decision.

While this may be the case for some kids I don't think it is fair to say that is how every commit feels about the fan base.

you people that are dogging this kid are TOTAL IDIOTS.

I don't think it's a matter of dogging Young. I'm kind of glad we got him. But lookit, would you rather have one Jamal Lewis or one Tom Smith with one Devrin Young? Could be that is what some folks are thinking, that they want the JL.

I think you are right, both about being glad to have Young, and that everyone who doesn't like him wants a JL.

The problem is JL was 2,000 yard rusher in the NFL. There just aren't that many of them.

Florida doesn't get a JL in every class. Out of their the last five classes they signed, they are starting running back right now that has more is more like Young in build and running style than Lewis.

As far as him only having 3 stars, the defintion of three star according to Brent Hubbs is a guy who could make significant contributions to a major Division I team during his 4 years of eligibility.

There is nothing wrong with Young having three stars, or UT offering Young.

I think DD should just go to the Jamal Lewis Tree and pluck another Jamal Lewis for the 2011 class. Easy

OK. Then what is the definition of a 4* and 5*?

OK. Then what is the definition of a 4* and 5*?

5* are to make immediate impact as freshman, 3* is suppposed to make significant contributions at some point as they are pretty raw, 4* somewhere in between. That's why Oregon, with their 3* players who have been in the same system for four years, were able to fall behind, compose themselves, but ultimately end up running all over our asses. That and we aren't that good.

Hubbs said the 5 stars are guys that rivals pick to be to make it to the NFL as first round / early second round draft picks. That's why there are only roughly 30 - 35 a year.

4 stars are guys that would make 1st or 2nd team all conference for the Majors. That's why there are more than a hundred of those.

I watched this kids video last night and was really impressed with his speed and ability to make people miss. His size isn't all that, but to be honest, I don't know if that's necessarily a bad thing. I could see him returning kickoff's and punt's as well as lining up in the slot when we go 3 wide. He reminds me of Demps because of his size and how shifty he is, but I think ultimately could end up being used like Wes Welker.

Line him up in the slot and create some mismatches. LB's would not be able to keep up with him...

Apparently Maryville's offense stayed on the field most of the night and chewed up the clock.

Certainly was the case for the first half. I couldn't stay for it all, but Maryville played nearly mistake free football, and Bearden turned it over twice. Once on an interception, and once on a fumble that I don't think was Young, but I didn't get a good look at that play.

In the first half Maryville had 3 Kicks for touchbacks, and no punts. The one kick Young returned, Maryville's coverage team had a lot of time to get downfield on a weird rolling kick, and beat the Bearden blocking, so there weren't many chances for Young.

He did have a highlight reel run on a broken play for a touchdown, which was about the only time that he got in open space in the half.

Overall, Maryville outmatched Bearden in so many areas, that was more the story than what Yound was or wasn't doing.

You have to offer this guy. In the first game of the year he had 6 TDs. 3 rushing, 2 receiving, a Kick off return, and blocked a punt. He does it all. He has over 1,000 yards and 15 TD in limited time due to blowouts in 5 games. He definitely deserved an offer

Right.

Happy for the kid but not the program.

Wrong.

He looks slow.

Wrong.

Young is a faster version of Dennis Rogan. If Rogan could be a 2 year starter, then surely Young can contribute.

Right.

He is a must offer. I haven't seen pure speed like that in a while.

Not sure what or how he will impact the team, but let him earn a spot. He is worth an offer.

Nailed it.

Not impressed at all. :disappointed:

I'm obviously not a scout, but I just don't see what makes him special. May be a great kid, but he doesn't look big, fast, or strong.

And that's against TN high school competition. He's not playing against great players.

:lolabove:

Too small. Too slow. no vision.

he won't even be able to return kicks and punts effectively!!!!

:p

I know this thread is a bit old, but I was catching up with our RB recruitment; I noticed that we're going for Akeem Judd and have Treyvon Paulk committed. Devrin is WAY better than both of those guys in terms of stats and speed. So I'm a little bit confused on why we're so hyped on the guys mentioned.

This is from the UTSports bio

"Averaged 7.7 yards per carry throughout career...In senior campaign, rushed for 2,271 yards and 32 TDs on 228 carries, while catching 13 passes for 201 yards and four TDs"

Can't wait to see him back against USCjr.
