Bears Vikings MNF

Just brutal. He had really one bad game and it looks like that's enough to do it for his chances there. Seems like he would have earned some good will for at least one more game or two, but the NFL is a grind and even more "what have you done for me lately" than college unfortunately.

He got ran down by defensive linemen. There were some plays that had room to scramble, but Dobbs stepped into the defenders. I think he can be better, but it would be difficult to play a guy his age over someone several years younger after last night’s performance.

I’m still happy that JD got a decent chance after so many years on the sideline.

He's already proven in his previous starts he is better than this. he has the 15th highest QBR in the NFL....after last nights game.....think about that. he has a higher QBR than Joe Burrow, Russel Wilson, Baker Mayfeild, Jordan Love and Bryce Young to name a few. And he is 14th in PAA which is another QB rating kinda like NET+- in the NBA but for QB's

He is hands down the 2nd best UT QB at the NFL level ever.
If memory serves me right, one of the games Az won with Dobbs was beating the Cowboys, one of the best teams today. Dobbs was slinging it and using his legs, receivers were catching what he threw, just a balanced game.

JD needs a solid #2 gig IMO. Hopefully, he’s shown that he can come in for a game or two and be effective. And get a true backup job.

He struggled mightily last night, but it also was one of O’Connell’s worst games as an OC, too. Constant pressure, but very little attempt to move Dobbs outside or get him involved in running game. Just a bad game plan going in with zero adjustments.

Also, just terrible strategy after getting the fumble late and not trying to put away the game. That was on O’Connell and not Dobbs.

And the DC Flores completely crapped the bed on the Bears last series.

I'll jump in here: "It's the NFL, not college..." doesn't hold so much anymore with the "protect the QB rules". Set run plays for the QB are about 10 times what they were 15 to 20 years ago. However, I'm not as concerned with giving him called run plays as I am encouraging him to break from the progressions and take off. O'Connell was telling him in that first game: "Don't forget your legs." With limited knowledge of the playbook, Josh's legs were a primary option. Now, it seems they're a last resort. He should have had 8 to 10 runs instead of looking for his 3rd, 4th, or 5th read. Check, check, go.
The Bears brought some blitz packages last night that negated him taking off and running.

Nope. Pat Ryan would be no. 2 and it's not close

As an aside I'm pretty meh on QBR. (this isn't specifically regarding Josh, just a general observation. Stuff like this:

Anyway we all know Josh can do better than last night (because he in fact has, we've seen it) but even last week the commentators noted how the D could have had a couple picks. He's not just a neat story anymore and teams have more film on him. Going forward ball security needs to be a real focus.

Rookies will have offseason training and then training camp and preseason games. Dobbs has been In Minnesota for like 2 weeks (In the middle of the season after two other teams) and without Jefferson to boot. lol

I'd say he's done great there so far.
Understood, but the last two games were VERY winnable and his turnovers had a big part in the outcomes.

I get that. I'm normally not an apologist for anyone, but I can't help but consider his situation. I hope they stick with him and he improves.

All I've hoped for is that he gets a chance, he's had his chance. What he does or doesn't do is on him. Wishing him the best, as always!

How many starts did Ryan get? He had a long career, but I think there was only one season where he started a lot of games, correct me if wrong.
Played in 145 games. Started 19 of them. He also won a playoff game as the starter. I actually attended his comeback game at RFK in DC. Philly pulled him off his sofa for the game because they ran out of QBs. Here is a long summary with video of his career and his short lived comeback. It starts at 0:45.

He looks nervous and indecisive.
I've watched him throw two crazy-looking balls away which were both called intentional grounding if I remember correctly,in two different games.
Rookie type mistakes, sometimes ya got to hold and fold. It's actually shocking to see a 7 yr guy do that stuff.

He makes plays that no other quarterback could accomplish. He also make decisions no other quarterback whose college career ended last decade SHOULD attempt.

Yeah I was going to add, those college antics don't play well in the pros.

Dobbs is a great guy. Well spoken...
Adequate back up QB in NFL....
Nothing wrong with that should have a 12 to 15 year career in NFL...

Dobbs has proven he's likely a solid #2 QB. Anyone thinking the last 2-3 weeks was an indication that he's "arrived" bought too much into the hype, which even the NFL was jumping on. He's done very well for a guy who's been on 7 different teams (some twice) in 7 years and is getting close to 30. I will be extremely shocked if he ends up being a long term solution for a team, but stranger things have happened.

His best bet is probably to get a solid #2 job on a good team or be basically a QB mercenary to be a stop gap starter like he was for Arizona this season.

I hope they don't bench JD, but it won't matter for them either way until they learn to protect their QB, whoever it is.

Watched the game and several before it. Love to watch Vols do well and Dobbs has played well. The Vikings DC must be an Auburn grad. Zero D on that last Bears drive. Dobbs put em in position for the win and Vikings stopped pressuring the QB.

It was astounding to see. They were in Fields' face all night until the last drive. That loss is on him and of course the O line.

TBH, I bet JD would be glad to give it back to the rookie. Let him get injured (again) instead of Josh.

The MN Vikings are the QB meat grinder.

uhh no. Pat Ryan played 13 seasons and started 19 games... in that time he passed for only 4300 yards 31TD's and 35 ints 156 and 1 td rushing. Dobbs has already started 14 games passed for 2857 15/13 td/int rushed for 475 and 6 in 5 seasons with 6 games left this season. So yeah the dude played a lot longer but his best season (only one he started more than 4 games) he passed for 1939 14/14 and got sacked for more yards (214) than he rushed for in his career. He does have 2 career extra-point kicks though.

Bears are sad again this year, and it doesn't help, the way the coaches quit on them. You saw it when they took a knee 3 plays in a row before the final field goal, because they were afraid to let their offense play football. They did it multiple times the previous game when they got late drives going, then got super conservative once they were in field goal range. The coaches have way too much fear to be working in football.

I've been saying for years that the main thing the Bears need to draft is a new owner; too bad that's not going to happen. They've gone wrong way too many times with management and coaching hires for it to be bad luck; it's got to be their superpower.

Yeah. He started the last few games of one season and led the Jets into the playoffs. Sorry. Not close
