The Stones have a whole hell of a lot more in common with Zepplin than the Beatles do.

Fair enough. I would still rank Zeppelin and The Beatles as 1A and 1B. The stones are further down the list IMO.

And I think that would put you in a category with a majority of people, I personally can just not figure out why that's the case.

The strength of the Beatles (and Stones) was their ability to write original melodies. IMO, as a musical genius, McCartney stands with Mozart and Bach.
