If there was a change as far as Coach, then I would make my first call to Ben Howland. At Pittsburgh, made sweet 16 twice. Left for UCLA, made the NCAA tournament 7 times in 10 years with 3 Final Fours with 1 being Runner Up. Everybody can be on the Bruce Pearl Bandwagon, but its not going to happen. If they do fire Cuonzo, then get Ben Howland. He can recruit talent as well.

Not "IF" there is a coaching change, but "When" there is a coaching change!

No! We don't get a successful college coach. Hart will NOT pay for a coach. He will go to the team that is the Cinderilla team of this season's tourney and get that coach.

Kinda like Dickey did when Tulsa made the Sweet 16 and we hired Buzz! or like Hamilton did when Martin made the NCAA at Missouri State!

We could have a top 20 team every year, even on down years, but the will to pay the coach is not there. So, we will continue to have 18, 19 or 20 win seasons and make the N.I.T.

CCM never made the NCAA tourney at Missouri St, and Buzz never led Tulsa to the Sweet 16.

I think the two things are connected. If Hart is not going to open up the pocket books and pay for a head coach then he is not going to make a change after this season. If a change is made after this season, I find that to be encouraging news regarding our intentions on the next hire. Now, that doe snot mean we will be able to persuade an established coach to come.

LOL. Childish on my part, I know. :)

My pecking order (assuming Pearl is not an option) would be:

1. Shaka Smart – pipe dream and would probably never happen, but can you imagine the excitement this hire would generate. I would make him say no.
2. Gregg Marshall – rumors are that he would at least listen if we called – this would be my second call after Smart and would be a homerun hire IMHO.
3. Ben Howland – worth a call; age, style of play, and recruiting ability are concerns.
4. Lawrence Frank – it seems like his name is on the list every time and from what I have read he is an excellent X's and O's coach. Lack of college experience could be an issue.
5. Buzz Williams – don’t know much about him; apparently makes a lot at Marquette with a rather sizeable buyout. First name also gives me horrible flashbacks.
6. Rick Pitino, Jr. – if his name was John Smith, Jr. I wonder if he would be as intriguing. We also have a very poor recent track record with hiring sons of famous coaches.
7. Rick Byrd – this would be the fall back, safe option; won’t kill the program, but won’t generate much excitement either.

Much like when we hired Pearl when he reached the NCAA as Cinderilla with Milwaukee. I dont understand the hate for Martin. There are plenty of examples of coaches that started off slow and turned a program around ask Duke and Coach K. Get rid of a coach that is going to win 20 games. Be careful what you ask for,:ermm:

I don't think its hate that they have for Martin , its the fact he sucks at coaching.

I really want Pitino JR. He's style of play would fit really well at UT and plus he is a good damn coach.

he's 73 years old

but he is a man and over 40......but serious what does age have to do with it ? Martin is what 42 and has never made a tourney let alone took a nothing of a school SMU and has them ranked. I don't even like LB

Solid list, imo. Would add Tim Miles to it. I wonder why we don't hear Tad Bowle's name. Former UT assistant, I might add. He does call Colorado his dream job though.

Also, even though Pitino Jr certainly benefits from the name, his work as a HC in a very short period, has been very impressive.
