Bench Bowden

Because he’s displayed a higher top end that Bowden??

I would argue that at a certain point this season becomes about getting ready for next season.

Going into the year we knew we needed Turner and Bowden to both play well for us to be a good team this year.

Nex year we get our seven footer, and three 5 star guards.

This year should about developing the roll players and specialists. I still think we can make the tournament doing this but not if Bowden doesn't average at least 12-15 ppg

Did JJJ really only play 8 minutes? The box score shows him only played that much but his stats seem to indicate otherwise

Can we just stop with the Gaines is the answer stuff? He should get more minutes because we only have 8 or 9 players but the notion that he is a better option is subjective at best. I don't think he has made a shot outside the paint in several games. I think Pember has more 3 point makes than he does.
Not arguing against your point, but Drew doesn’t have more threes made than Gaines.

I don't think we should give all of Bowden's minutes to Gaines. Just let Bowden play off the bench. Gaines has shown more aggressiveness than Bowden and that's what we need a bit more of.
Bowden seemed pretty aggressive today, just in a bad way.

Bowden shooting air balls inside the paint so not much difference. Oh and after the air ball Bowden followed that up with about a 12ft air ball and 2 missed layups. Not saying Gaines is the answer but Bowden needs to come off the bench. Gaines is always good for 4-6 points and Bowden is not even giving us that here lately

I agree to bench Bowden for a while, let him be the 6th man. Give minutes to Gaines and JJ

Only problem with benching Bowden is losing his assists which are pretty consistent. Fulkerson and Pons wouldn't score half their points without those assists. Fulky didn't get his today. Nobody wants to fix it more than he does.

Bowden has been my favorite player last 2 years (see my Avi) even among all the stars. I just like the kid but man is he cold. He also has not shown that he can get hot once he starts off cold so I definitely think it is time to cut his minutes if he starts off slow or tell him he doesn't have a green light. He's still a fine defender and rebounder.

Keep bowdens minutes the same but being the 6th man might help. It’s worked
Before for him so it’s worth a shot

I think we should just play everbody more minutes and just let them all get after it. If nothing else our young players will get more playing time and experience for next season.

There is no proof benching him helped anything. Benching him just showed us we had nothing better behind him so they had to put him back in. they kept giving guys chances to take his job. They failed.

Maurer came in the game last night threw 3 passes every pass hit the hands of a reciver.. sadly only one of them was a UT receiver... that's why JG got put back in the options behind him were worse. Had we stuck with him all year he likely plays better overall. But there is no real way to know. What is clear is JG has always been a slow starter and puts up better numbers in the second half whether he starts or comes off the bench.

If the coaches had someone to start in front of Bowden that person would be starting already.
Sure there is. JG played better after being benched for Maurer earlier in the season. Don’t look at just the IU game but look at JG before Maurer’s first start and after. He then regressed in the Vandy and IU games but from Miss St through Mizzou, Bama disaster aside, JG played much better. He wasn’t great by any means but better for sure.

Vescovi has only been here a week. That's an adjustment for the other players as well. But no doubt though, Bowden is in a funk.

JJJ looked pretty good.
Did you watch the presser? When asked why Josiah only played 7 minutes in the first half, Barnes looked befuddled but then spent a few minutes answering the question. is coach also tired?

Didn't he play better last season as a 6th man? Let him go full Guarantano and give his best coming off the bench.

He was comfortable last year with little pressure and everything he did was an added bonus. Some people don’t thrive being THE man and sadly, that looks to be the case. I can see he’s a great kid and a great teammate. I hope he comes around

Bowden will no longer get the primary attention. Hopefully that will loosen him up some.

Bowden has always been streaky. This team can't win without Bowden. You don't bench him. You coach him. He's certainly been cold, but yesterday's game looked more like playing with the flu, or even with an injury. A nagging injury makes you over-adjust and produces those types of horrible misses. He wasn't just slightly off, like he has been; he wasn't even close. If he's not sick or hurt, then he needs to keep confidently putting up shots.
