It's hard to compare the two because Berry was never a part of a defense that good. Honey Badger has been unreal, though. I don't want to be the next one to underestimate him because of his size, but I'm not so sure how he'll be at the next level. I don't see him being as good a pro as Berry was in his first year.

Right, because the only logical explanation for anyone who doesn't agree with that guy is clearly because they're ignorant.
Yes, because that smiley you've been using indicates high respect for the posts you're quoting.

You're basically calling people idiots without actually arguing anything.

Right, because using a certain emoticon is akin to calling someone an idiot.

Mathieu is quite clearly the superior talent and might actually contend for a Heisman instead of simply having a school-sponsored initiative making his case.

100% agree with you
Mathieu does not project well at the next level, but what is funny is he didn't project at all at this level either.

I think if he can keep up this pace and if he does manage a punt return for TD he should be in the Heisman race but we'll see, SECC and NC are more important.

If I had to pick a player for the next level it would be Berry but at this level I don't know how a DB could make a bigger impact.

As far as the time he has been on the field and the defensive impact and stats he has brought to the table I haven't seen anything like it.

Revis, Ed Reed, Eric Berry and Sean Taylor all have done more in college than Mathieu.

Tyrann is a great player, but there's been several guys that had the same if not bigger impact that he's had.

Also, Tyrann has been able to freelance and make plays because he's surrounded by NFL talent all over the field. He's the second best (at best) cover guy on his team. They can afford to move him everywhere.

Berry had Ayers and Mayo in front of him for a year and big Dan for three. Look who backs up Mathieu

I'm gonna have to take Berry... Unless Matthieu does this year after year then i'll deff give him some credit to Berry's level. But hes not there yet..

Yeah the kid has started 6 games, yes that is correct SIX and he has the LSU record for forced fumbles and fumble recoveries and I believe fumble recoveries for TDs. Let alone he has 4 INTS in two years while playing behind Peterson last year. Oh, and he just happens to lead the team with tackles as a 5 foot nothing guy that nobody wanted.

If you do the math per play played by Mathieu there is nobody that comes close, now whether he is better than them I will not get into, whether he keeps this up is unknown.

Here is the stats I have for Mathieu, I believe he has played in 18 games, 6 as starter.
- 10 FF (2 additional ones not recorded by NCAA last year)
- 5 FR (2 for TDs)
- 13.5 TFL
- 4 INT
- 6 Sacks

He is basically good for 5-6 tackles on average even when he didn't start per game, 1+ turnover, 1+ TFL/Sack per game.

These would be great career stats for anyone else even if they started 48+ games. Heck, Peterson only had 7 INTs as a 3 year starter.

Yes, he did...

You keep acting like no one wanted him and he came out of nowhere, but I distinctly remember him showing out at Tennessee's camp and our staff pursuing him hard. It's just damn near impossible to take a Louisiana kid away from LSU.

They were both really good. Berry was a freak, and I wonder what he could've done if he would have stayed at safety his Jr year and not had to play NB or any position across the D. Matthieu is just a different style of player. Let's let Matthieu finish his 2nd and 3rd years and then we can make a decent comparison.
