Beside Tobias and Chism, would you say any other Pearl recruit lived up to their hype

Tobias was a stud. No question. Not here long enough to say what effect Pearl had on him.

Tyler Smith - over rated imo, team played better w/o him

Hopson - over rated, superstar in his own mind

Maze - no thanks

Prince - glue guy, nothing more

Negedu - will never know

Maymon - Couldn't beat out Steven. Going to be a player, so I would say Pearl could not develop him.

Mcrae - to be determined.

edit- forgot Chism. Most wins as a vol, enough said. I will say he had less talent than some of the others, but he played with heart and desire

You Pearl haters sure do hate our former players. This looks real appealing to potential recruits I would bet. Knowing the fans here sneer and redicule former players
when they gave their all for UT and took us to the greatest heights in our program history. Keep up the hate, you may get Stokes to go to Memphis after all.

Yeah, scotty never played well when it mattered. His 30 against Pitt was nothing.

Yeah, that's fine. He should've been ranked lower, and he might've lived up to appropriate expectations. But he didn't live up to what were the expectations, which was the question.

The question was none of Bruce's recruits panned out except for Chism and Tobias. There were plenty that panned out including Hopson.

You forgot a kinda important phrase there. Also used in the OP was "lived up to the hype."

I disagree with the OP. I think that Pearl had four recruits that lived up to the hype. Scotty Hopson was not one of them. He didn't come close.

Manning threw for 325 yards and 2 TDs in his first game against Florida.

I seriously just can't get my ahead around anyone thinking Scotty Hopson lived up to expectations. Did he have some individual games in which he did? Sure. But he never turned into a consistent performer. He was expected to be dominant, night in and night out. And he wasn't.

But, he did not win.

I mean I see a lot of the Pearl supporters/lovers talking about how bad a job Martin has done, or is going to do in recruiting. But besides Tobias and Chism, really none of Pearl's other recruits really panned out the way everybody thought they would!

Bruce went to the NCAA tournament every single year he was here. Either his recruiting was good or he was a good coach, because he won and beat a lot of really good teams.

Toby didn't stay around long enough to reach his potential.

I agree with this point. Toby did fair his only year but did not dominate and sometimes you wondered where he was out there. Certainly a great kid and I wish he had stayed longer. On the Potential Scale however I would say he was an underachiever based on his one year.

I'm just saying you pointed out the tournaments. Guess what we did not win won while he was here so yea.

Did Janzen Jackson live up to expectations?

Did Janzen Jackson live up to expectations?

1. There's a difference between disappearing in big games and not winning big games. The latter has something to do with the rest of the team. Scotty Hopson was consistently awful in the tournament. Peyton Manning was not consistently awful against Florida, in bowls, or in the SECCG. So it's not a good comparison.

2. "We did not win won while he was here so yea" . . . . You're not Ali. You're not even. . . literate.

3. You could argue Janzen Jackson either way. He did live up to expectations when he was on the field, but he also wasn't on the field as much as he should've been (and it was his own fault).

Of course he did not disappear in games. "And manning takes the snap drops back" So how would he disappear? Consistently awful is how I would consider Manning's play against Florida.

Scotty played big at Pitt, and won the game against Florida. He played big against Kansas, Kentucky, and was our only hope against a terrible Georgia team.

Grammar police watch out.

How the hell did Hopson live up to the hype? He was supposed to be a top 5 player, better than Tyreke Evans, and a first-round pick. Instead, he ended up staying for three years and going undrafted in the weakest draft in years...

Who cares if the players developed... Bruce gets deep into the tournament with mediocre talent. Counzo will be lucky to win 10 games with a team Bruce would have probably been able to make the NIT with.

I doubt it. Too many holes on the team at 1, 4, and 5 positions.
