Best High School Player Seen

Does anybody remember the name of the big time RB from the Gallatin Green Wave back in the 80's that played at Vandy? He was a beast back then.

Reggie White, Bob Johnson, John Hannah, Charles Hannah, Bobby Scott, Andy Kelly, Eddie Brown, Mike Jones, Terdell Sands, Donnie Elder, David Douglas, Steve Sloan, Reggie Mathis, Eddie Moore, Edwin Lovelady.

There was another great one that signed with Vols out of Howard High School with Reggie White but he quit after the Bama game and might have been more talented then Reggie White but can't remember his name.
Charles Morgan. Rumor was after he had a big game against Bama in maybe '80 he got upset when Majors called out the whole defense so he quit the team. Never heard of him again. Could have been really good...

James "Little Man" Stewart...scrimmaged against his team in HS and played against Ralph Nelson (TN OL).

We must be about the same age.....

James was also a good basketball player. He had a twin brother who wasn't bad either, I believe his name was Scotty.

Dustin Moore RB at Greeneville HS, Greeneville TN. Was always the fastest on the field and most times the biggest as well. Unreal size/speed combo. Then played TE for the Vols and was a difference maker there as well. Had trouble away from the football field that derailed what would have been.....

Da'Rick Rogers
Alvin Kamara
Kenny and David Irons (Played with both of them)
Jeff Francoeur (played against him in the first round of the playoffs, the fastest WR I ever saw at that level)
Ah a fellow Gwinnett boy. Which school?

I went to Old Hickory Academy before we moved to Nashville. Still hate that it’s now USJ
I graduated from a USJ rival. And my kids go to that same school. USJ has Great athletics. And we love when we beat them. Lately we have owned them in everything but football. Now that USJ has to move up in classification they will need to recruit more.

I saw in person Al at JCM. Willis and Longmire at Bruceton. Donald at Huntindon. Corey Moore and all the Hines guys at Haywood.

But Kelcey Williams at Humboldt is the best I ever saw in high school. He was special. I wish he could have made it. The guy was unreal.

Moved from G'ville in 2005. Great place to live and raise kids, except for dealing with in state tuition.. therefore my girls are Aubies.

I met Chuck a few times I believe.... I thought he lived at one time next door or close to a friend just behind the Hollywood Cream Bar not far from Pond Gap School. I left for Belmont in 69' returned in 2006 with most of my adult life centered on work out of Huntsville AL.

Met very briefly with Phil a couple of years back when they dedicated or re-dedicated the Bearden BB complex for him. He was the most versatile athlete I knew as QB, shortstop, point guard for us. Of course OUR Bearden was 5 milies up Kingston Pike. My class closed down the old school.

worked at Huntsville Times from 1972-75 and wife is from Gadsden. A cousin of hers once managed or owned a seafood place in Guntersville.
my younger brother and Chuck were teammates in three sports, and did Sandy Gillespie play for Lebo>. He was a pretty good QB for West and my knees were knocking every time I faced him in Little League. Three of my cousins were Bearden grads and I probably knew several of your Bearden classmates, with Kent Hollenbeck being the best basketball player I ever played with (at Mears camp) or against while at West

Richmond Flowers, running back at Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery Alabama.

Andy Kelly, Rhea County
Randy Sanders, Morristown East
neighbor of mine from Ozark-Dothan area said he finished 2nd to Richmond in state track meet. One of my favorites. while I was in igh school in Knoxville

Best was a tie between Bo Matthews and Condredge Holloway. Bo played at Butler High in Huntsville at same time Condredge was at Lee High School. He went to Colorado and played for the NY Giants for a few years. Condredge threw the ball to another good player named Dwight Scales. He went to Grambling and played for the Chargers for a while. Then there was Duffy Boles. Played at Huntsville High just before I got there. Dominated in high school and went to Alabama where he was just another of a score of running backs. Started way down at the bottom and in true Bear Bryant style, worked his way up one year at a time. Finally became a starter as a fifth year senior. I’m sure ptcarter saw all these guys play as well and probably frequented Duffy’s Deli often.
Wished i couldve seen Condredge. Watched a lot of good players at Butler durnng Meadows era. Was acquainted with Duffy after he moved back to Huntsville.

Phillip Rivers - Athens high
Salim Rasheed - Shades Valley
Jameis Winston - Hueytown
Andre Smith - Huffman
Jason Allen - Muscle Shoals
Marcel Darius - Huffman
Chad Jacskon - Hoover

I could go on and on. I worked high school football in Alabama for 21 years.
was prep editor for Alabama newspaper in early 70s. Ozzy Newsome possibly the best I ever saw play in those years

Who are the best High Football players you have watched play in person:

Al Wilson he was playing Safety and was just killing ball carriers. You could just see he was going to be special, speed and furious hits.

Dante Hicky (Spelling?) from Cleveland: saw him play several times and in the KY/TN all-star game. He was electric, played WR and returner but never made it to college because of ???. Best player I've seen in person.

Kelly Holcomb, Chad Henderson and a WR named Grogan on the Lincoln County team in the early 90's-time frame. Kelly would throw a 30-yard dart and you could hear hit the guys in the pads up in the stands. I was surprised Kelly didn't go to a bigger school than MTSU but he had an incredible career. I thought Grogan was the best player on the field, he was a big WR who would catch anything near him and I'm sorry I can't remember his first name, no disrespect intended. I don't think he played college ball anywhere and that was a shame because he was very talented.

Kenny Witherspoon (Spelling) RB I think Stradford High and went to Vandy. He was just smooth and had a Walter Payton type running style, not that he was Walter but just he made moves with no effort, just fun to watch.

I hope I got the names and schools correct. Just my opinion so who is yours?

Probably Brian Randolph at Kell High School in Cobb County. Played both ways. On defense, played safety behind my nephew who was a LB. On offense, he was a phenomenal RB. I saw him score 5 TDS in a handful of games; I seem to remember him scoring six one game. Just an electric runner who knew how to use his blockers.

I played against Kenny Irons and Jeff Francoeur too. Great players. We played one game against WR Sean Bailey from Milton HS and he was a human joystick. Scored maybe 4TDs that day.

Played against Reggie Ragland throughout high school he was at Bob Jones and I went to Huntsville. Also played against Ameer Abdullah my senior year.

I was 4 years younger than him so I never played against him. One of my best friends played 2nd base for Grissom at the same time Condredge played ss for Lee. So I saw him play baseball a few times a year. He was your classic elite athlete of that era. Best player on the field/court regardless of the sport. One personal experience - we went to the same church as Condredge. His mom and my dad were friends from working together back then. I believe the Color Orange fabricated a racist angle regarding his youth. I didn’t know of a single person in Huntsville (black, white, brown, he, she, they, whatever) that didn’t respect him and his family and didn’t treat him like anyone else.

I hear Guntersville Lake is haunted. Because it's full of the bodies of reporters who tried to blow the whistle on Alabama's cheating football program.
Don't know about haunted but it's full of KY. And Indiana bass boats running up and down the lake.
