Did your Griffin team ever play Duluth when George Rogers played for them or Warner Robins when James Brooks played for them?
I was 79-83. We played Warner Robbins teams quite a bit in playoff rounds. Brooks was 7 years older than me, do I didn't get to see him in HS. It would have been a pleasure though considering his auburn and pro career. He was quite lengthy in the pros for a RB when the contact rules were lenient. Never played Duluth back then. We've been up and down the last few decades. They built a new HS (Spalding Co) years back that decimated our concentration of talent. Got built back up and got a coach that had us in the final 4 (or close) fairly regularly the last 10 years or so. Now I see we have another new coach and went 3-7 this year.

Who are the best High Football players you have watched play in person:

Al Wilson he was playing Safety and was just killing ball carriers. You could just see he was going to be special, speed and furious hits.

Dante Hicky (Spelling?) from Cleveland: saw him play several times and in the KY/TN all-star game. He was electric, played WR and returner but never made it to college because of ???. Best player I've seen in person.

Kelly Holcomb, Chad Henderson and a WR named Grogan on the Lincoln County team in the early 90's-time frame. Kelly would throw a 30-yard dart and you could hear hit the guys in the pads up in the stands. I was surprised Kelly didn't go to a bigger school than MTSU but he had an incredible career. I thought Grogan was the best player on the field, he was a big WR who would catch anything near him and I'm sorry I can't remember his first name, no disrespect intended. I don't think he played college ball anywhere and that was a shame because he was very talented.

Kenny Witherspoon (Spelling) RB I think Stradford High and went to Vandy. He was just smooth and had a Walter Payton type running style, not that he was Walter but just he made moves with no effort, just fun to watch.

I hope I got the names and schools correct. Just my opinion so who is yours?
Saw Tee Higgins when I was young. This year I saw Caleb Downs, Justice Haynes, Kaleb Beasley, Jalen Smith, Wendell Gregory, Peter Woods, etc

I think Todd Henderson was a pretty good QB for Morristown too, I saw an East / West game back in the day and Little man was special

I saw Jahmyr Gibbs run for 300+ yard in a Dalton High School win over R.L. Osborne in 2019. Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 2,554 yards and 40 touchdowns during his Senior season with Dalton. I think He was the fastest, slickest running back that i've ever seen play high school football.View attachment 521568
LOL did you see Pruitt there talking about how he should be a DB?

Champ Bailey back in the day - dude was a single man DB unit
Rex Grossman not long after moving to Bloomington area
Jay Cutler just because as a fan of the game had to go see what the fuss was about - they weren't wrong

Most recently, saw a LOT of Tayven Jackson play at Center Grove HS just south of Indy...kid has the tools to be something special.

My first catch as a freshman was against Jackson Central Merry. I 100% know Al played LB since I made a business decision once I saw him running at me....
Watched Al Wilson play several times against my Tomcats. I remember him playing linebacker and running back. You should have seen him play basketball. He was a hoss

Probably not a name most people will think of, but when Jacques Smith was at Ooltewah he was fun to watch. Felt like he was in the backfield all the time. I’ve seen a few good players but he was the most dominant I can remember around the SE TN area in person.
Got ran over by Gerald Riggs Jr and Jacques Smith was really impressive. Baylor's Junior wide receiver #7 Amari Jefferson saw him this year he is big and fast and he is committed to Tennessee he was offered to play baseball and football have a feeling he will be playing football.

Played against John Henderson in high school. He was good, but Pearl Cohn was full of college talent. He’s 6’-8”, so he couldn’t help but stick out.
Played head up against John Finlayson. He was a standout size and talent from our small area.
Best player I ever saw play personally in high school was a guy named Robbie Locklear. Went to Memphis for a couple of years, but I don’t think he had his head on quite right back then and didn’t last. He was the most talented guy on the field every Friday night in ‘93-‘94.

Best was a tie between Bo Matthews and Condredge Holloway. Bo played at Butler High in Huntsville at same time Condredge was at Lee High School. He went to Colorado and played for the NY Giants for a few years. Condredge threw the ball to another good player named Dwight Scales. He went to Grambling and played for the Chargers for a while. Then there was Duffy Boles. Played at Huntsville High just before I got there. Dominated in high school and went to Alabama where he was just another of a score of running backs. Started way down at the bottom and in true Bear Bryant style, worked his way up one year at a time. Finally became a starter as a fifth year senior. I’m sure ptcarter saw all these guys play as well and probably frequented Duffy’s Deli often.

Slightly off topic, but your post brought up a memory I had of watching Big John Tate play in a pickup basketball game once. Watching him drive in for a layup was intimidating as it was humorous.

Al caught a huge growth spurt when he entered HS. It was a hoot to watch him at PG in the rec league and he would hit frozen rope homeruns in Little League.

Who knows what might have happened with his career had he survived the last round with Mike Weaver.

For me its Jason Witten. He was just at a different level than all other East Tn kids.

Thr second would be the kid from Greenevlle, Dustin... (maybe Moore) cant remember his last name. Was at UT for a couple of seasons in the early 90s before grades got him. Insane speed and athletic ability for a guy his size.

Da'Rick Rogers
Alvin Kamara
Kenny and David Irons (Played with both of them)
Jeff Francoeur (played against him in the first round of the playoffs, the fastest WR I ever saw at that level)

You play at Dacula??

Kenny and Frenchy were the two hardest hits I’ve ever taken. Both of them were worse than car wrecks.

I went to South Gwinnett. We had a kid named Michael Grant who was ELECTRIC before he went back to Stevenson. Ended up at Arky. Superstar player.
