Best RB to ever play college football?

Nebraska was a smashmouth team in the 90's. Other than that, who had a good defense?

Oklahoma had a good defense in those days...KSU had some great teams as well...Remember Ricky was on some bad Texas teams in those days...He pretty much did it all himself.

Bo Jackson was the greatest athlete I've seen play football. Walker was by far the hungrier college runner. His straight away speed, at his size and relentlessness, were unsurpassed. But in the pros, Bo Jackson was scary good. I would have loved to see Bo in the I-formation in college and then make the comparisons. I would say Bo was faster, with much better lateral movement then Walker. But in college, Walker did it best.

You realize that Walker was a world class track athlete, right?

I know UGA fans may or may not have a hard time agreeing to this, and while I think there's a perfectly valid argument to be made that Herschel was a superior RB...

Bo Jackson is the last real American folk hero.

Bo Jackson is the last real American folk hero.

Don't confuse Bo being the last real American folk hero with Bo being a better college football running back than Herschel Walker.

If I had one handoff as my only option and it had to be housed I'd go with Sanders or Jackson. (Walker was actually faster though Jackson was still very fast and was better at making people miss) If I had to just win a game I'd choose Walker.

As a pure RB, meaning taking a ball and just running while trying to avoid getting tackled, I've never seen the likes of Sanders. His running style, however, is more vulnerable to field conditions.

In terms of jawdropping, broken-field artistry, my memories tell me that the pre-knee injury version of Gale Sayers was Sanders' equal. I would have to see film clips of both of them at their best, juxtaposed against each other, to determine if those memories are correct.

Any discussion including the words "best... football... ever.." has to include Jim Brown.

The only thing that works to Jim's detriment in this discussion is that he played in an era when they simply did not compile stats as gaudy as those of later decades. In his senior season, Brown "ran for 986 yards—third most in the country despite Syracuse playing only eight games—and scored 14 touchdowns" (Jim Brown - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

Herschel Walker by a landslide! The thing about Herschel is that back then, since Vince Dooley passed the ball about once a season, EVERYBODY knew he was getting the ball and they still could not stop him. He truly was a man among boys!
