UT was 8-1 without Crews, and his numbers were down before he went out with his heart condition.

Maze will be a JR I believe after playing at Okla. as a frosh and then JUCO last season.

Yeah, look how he set the world on fire at OU.

I liked Ramar and Duke, but I think that we have the potential to be better with them gone as well. I think there's no way we get Maze with Ramar still here, and I doubt we get Negedu with Crews still here. Both have the potential to be much better than who they're replacing.

Yes, why would anyone believe losing two key players, rising upperclassmen, from arguably the most successful UT team ever would be bad news?

And if you think Ramar SMith or Duke Crews played a big role your crazy!

So why did the staff play Duke at all after the injury...sympathy? The guy was a good player who made the team better. He would be a contributor next year as well. I really don't understand the argument.

My mistake about Maze, but he is an unknown anyway you hack it, new to the team and new to the system. I hope he's all-SEC next year, but I still don't see how losing either, or both, of two good young players is a positive. It may not be the end of the world, but the logic that says their dismissal is a good thing escapes me.

We lost a guard and a post player, both rising Jr.s. Smith played 21 minutes a game, scored 7.4 pts, and added a couple of boards and assists. Crews played 15 minutes, averaged 5 pts and 4 rebounds, and was a post presence. Like them or not, UT would be better off with them than without.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT Post Pressence????
He got killed down low. He had long arms for rebounding but could not hold onto the ball at all. Worst hands on the team!

Ramar Smith had a assist to turnover ratio that was almost equal. His Freshmen year he averaged 7 pts his Sophmore year he averaged 5pts.

So you think 5pts from Ramar and 5pts from Duke are a big lose???
I would give those points away to have a point guard that can penetrate and score and does not turn the ball over a lot. And also have a post player that can actually play post and not get bodied around like a blow up doll.
With the team next year, we have players coming in that should produce a lot more then just 5 pts a game! Hell Brian Williams should average more then that this year!

You don't think your returning starting point or one of 3 legit post players played a big role?

If you watched the last game of the year, I think Ramar had a lot of work to do to make it back to the point position! Bruce was already lookin for someone to take over the point. And the only Role Duke Crews played was MIN! they just needed him as a sub. Now we just got 3 guys that will easily replace Duke Crews. And 2 guys that will replace Ramar!

m37bruno, all we've done is lose two promising sophomores. Have we recruited well behind them? Yes. Does that make losing them a positive? Absolutely not.

While we are extolling the virtues of those never to put on an orange uniform, let me remind you of this: Ramar and Duke were both top 5 at their respective positions coming out of highschool. They have also had two years to become better, stronger, and more familiar with their teammates and with Pearl's system. What in God's name makes you believe at this point that the new guys are going to step in and be equal to, much less better than, the two we lost?

Hey, don't worry. Jurick is going to be a huge help in the post.

Duke averaged like 12 mins and scored in double figures one time, and again by the end of the season Ramar lost his starting job to a guy that had not even practiced at the position. I also never said it was a positive losing these two, I just don't think it will hurt anything. These two would NOT make the difference between the Elite 8 and FF.

Ramar was a top 5 shooting guard, not PG. I just don't see how it isn't clear he was not a PG that could lead this team on a consistent basis. He was splitting time with Jordan Howell most of the season, that should say a lot!

And yet the both got worse! Duke's numbers were down before the heart condition too.

Splitting hairs a bit there, aren't we? 1 or 2, the guy was a top guard in the country. He was running the point at UT because a) we didn't have anybody else, b) he was too good of an athlete not to be on the floor, and c) he could handle and penetrate but wasn't a great shooter. We still lost a top recruit 2 years into his tenure.

These two would NOT make the difference between the Elite 8 and FF.

You never know what will make the difference, especially since the guys that are replacing them are unknowns. You now return one guard with any significant experience, and he may be suited better for the three than a guard position. You also lost a post player from a team that, at times, had trouble rebounding and matching up with bigger, half-court oriented opponents.

In the end, I suppose it doesn't matter. Ramar and Duke are gone, and their scholarships have been filled. But I still disagree that they had nothing to do with last year's succes (bruno) or that the incoming players will definitely cause an improvement over the team we would have had if they were still in orange.

Since this could keep going I'll just quote Ron Burgundy, "Agree to disagree".

Anyone know if Roberto Nelson from Santa Barbara will be part of the UT’s recruiting hunt? He had very good games at the Las Vegas tournaments and always puts up a tone of points. He will graduate high school in 09
YouTube - Roberto Nelson Mix - One of 09's Top Guards
Tell your friend to send highlight videos to the UTAD if he is interested in coming to UT. I'm sure they could get it into the proper hands.
