Best staff in the country?

His opinion of best staff and a fans opinion are obviously going to be vastly different. He owes the fans nothing as far as his staff is concerned

I like the hire, but I am a wait and see fan. However, I will take these folks' evaluations over the whining OP: VFL Charles Davis on Butch Jones - Tennessee.

Now these guys don't know everything, but some know what they are talking about. So, go ahead and whine about every little detail and thing that CBJ does if it makes you feel good.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but did we not just hire the only 2 people Mark Richt ever fired?

That should speak volumes.

All these negative posts certainly do help the situation. It is what it is right now. Whether or not any of us believe he can get it done with this staff is completely irrelevant. Why not just hope for the best and offer some encouragement?

Because it is a message board and debate is healty, if everyone agreed what would be the point of a message board?

Butch assured us they were going after the best staff in the country. A big east cincy staff and a couple of guys fired from a failing auburn program? Interesting...

Are you a football coach? I didn't think so, why don't you let the guy coach and you go back to selling used cars.

It became pretty obvious in listening to CBJ for just a few minutes that he speaks in hyperbole as part of his shtick. He also said we had the best tradition, best fans, best facilities and that this was the best coaching job in the nation. Of course, any one or all of these points could be argued, but it is certainly far from cut-and-dry. It's just how he seems to be. It's part of the motivational tools he uses to do his thing.

In the end, why does it matter? If he did hire what most perceived as "the best staff in the country," it wouldn't matter if they were losing ball games. And, if they are winning? Well, 'nuff said.

Ummm what is he supposed to say " We are going after the most mediocre staff in the country," "We are going after the worst staff in the country," Of course he is going to say they are going after the best that he sees fit and that are willing to come and be on his staff.

I totally agree that debate is healthy. My point is that of this time there isn't really anything to debate. We have no clue how good this staff could turn out to be. What is the point of swimming in negativity? Especially over and over like the op seems to be doing. You don't like the hire? Fine, but why not at least wait and see what kind of product is put on the field?

Because if we wait that would make the most logical sense....my years of being around here statistics show that we like to drive right into the illogical choices makes things more fun.

obiviously you have no idea what staff continuity means...and if CBJ feels like he has the best staff in the country who is to tell him he doesn't

I think the staff continuity is a great sign- it means there are a core of guys who love workin together and have succeeded together.

Think about all o the efficiencies we gain in year one by already having a group of guys who have worked through the kinks before.

I would call it a redflag if he didnt bring anyone from Cincy.

Who knew the best staff in the country was secreted away in Cincinnati? Add a few rejects from the worst team in the SEC and keep one token Orange Blood on the sidelines to appease the fans, and we're ready to recruit.

The staff Coach Butch is collecting may prove to be a big winner. But the point in time when folks stop believing his sales pitch lines already passed.

I'll give him two years to show he and his staff can recruit with the top programs in the country and show us he can win a tough game or two. No more scars. If he pulls a top 10 recruiting class for 2014 and wins some big games then he earns a 3rd year. If not, then later Butch.

Good luck with that! 6 year contract - 2 years of service = 4 remaining years. At 2 million per year, Jones - by himself - would be entitled to $8 million to go away. Don't just open the wallet... better give it to him. More realistic option if things go bad: minimum of 3 years, but more likely to be 4.
