Best staff in the country?

Butch Jones has been our head coach for almost a full five days, and he hasn't even won a single game yet, not a single one ... let alone a championship.

I think it time to start looking for a new coach.

Its all about how the staff works together. You don't need huge names at every position.

It annoys me when people look at the resumes of these guys and come on here and fire away on them and talk about how bad they are and how this staff isn't good. If you look at most of them they have been following Butch around since his Central Michigan days so if we want to say that Butch has 4 championships out of 6 years then you might as well say this staff does too. I know people are mad about Willie Martinez and Jancek but those guys are up comers who just need a chance to prove themselves. Jancek might have blew at Georgia but now he has a few years under his belt and he was very impressive with the defense at Cincy, I understand it was the Big East but being 12th in points against speaks for itself. Martinez was a failed DC, but he has been noticed for how well he coaches DBs, I think having a DC only as a positions coach is a pretty good hire. Losing Pittman and Hinshaw to be replaced by Mahoney and Weist is almost a lateral move and I will be honest these are the two coaches that I will keep my eye on but they both seem very capable of the job. Thigpen was ranked as a great recruiter and has SEC ties, it wasn't his fault that Chizik got fired I do not believe their LBs were to bad or the fault in their terrible season. If you look at the other coaches Stripling and Elder they might not be "big" names but those guys are taking this job in stride and they know this is their chance to prove themselves and they are going to give their all for this program and that is exactly the type of coaches we need. Jones bringing Bajakian was almost a given, I don't blame head coaches bringing their OCs they know how the offense works and it allows better flow from the HC to the OC. I think Jones did a great job by retaining Graham and it sucks that Tee did not want to come home.

All that being said, this staff is not made up of big name coaches but it has the making to be a solid staff with great relationships. The better a coaching staff can build relationships, work together and be familiar with one another is only going to help this team transition for the better. I do not believe Coach Jones would have brought his staff if he was not confident in their abilities and thought that we could not win with them. Just give them a chance because I believe that the better they work together the more this team is going to progress. These coaches will give their all for this program and none of them have the detrimental ego's that go with most "big name" hires.

His Cincy coaches are proven winners.. know his system, and know how he wants things done.. If I was taking over a job as big as this, I would want people around me I trusted to get the job done too.

Once again, proven winners..

Then he is doing his best to fill the rest of the spots with Vols..

I am extremely happy he kept Graham, He tried to get Tee..

Once again, I really want to stress.. these people are proven winners. Something we could never say about Dooley.

would you say the same to a team that picked up former UT coaches like Pittman and Hinshaw?

No. They are solid hires because they showed improvement and their talent on the field and on the recruiting trail.

To have the best staff in the country, you should start with the best coach....sorry, chief...Butch Jones is bottom-of-the barrel, so, good luck with that

If "three star" coaches get wins, I'm game. Hopefully, proper shower technique was mastered and we're now being coached in more advanced topics.

Weird, you would think with their great resume that they could get jobs somewhere besides Cincy and Kentucky. And do you really want to compare who Thigpen and Martinez have recruited and put into NFL to what Hinshaw and Pittman recruited?

I wonder if Mullen, Heater, Gonzalez, and Hevesy were considered by Florida fans as great assistant coaches. Fact is, none of you whining can name a WR coach or RB coach at another SEC school.

When Urban Meyer came to florida he brought many from his utah staff. Most had not been heard of in the mainstream media. According to the logic on this board they should have been terrible. The best staff in the country could not have come from a no name school like Utah. Well I hope our coaches are as lousy as his turned out to be!
