oh Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin ?

Not a good comparison and John Lennon said "There's only one person in the United States we ever wanted to meet ... not that he wanted us. And we met him last night. We can't tell you how we felt. We just idolised him so much. ... You can't imagine what a thrill that was last night. Nothing really affected me until I heard Elvis. If there hadn't been an Elvis, there wouldn't have been the Beatles."

So Elvis by default. A better comparison would be Led Zeppelin vs Black Sabbath.

Allman Brothers were clearly a better band.

Apples and oranges.

Skynyrd was a typical rock band and the Allmans were rock, soul, and blues.

Turn on Jessica, Sweet Melissa, Dreams, or Whipping Post and you have your answer.

Not hating on Skynyrd as I dig them but Gregg and the Gang were much better musicians.

Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath are too dissimilar as well. LZ utilized many more instruments and added a lot in the studio. Black Sabbath was just pretty much kick ass.

Turn on Needle and the Spoon, I Need You, and Searching.

Still apples and oranges.

One was commercial rock with a few great anthems and the other put out better albums.

Had Ronnie lived I feel this would be a different conversation. Dude could write. Sadly he didn't and we got stuck with a joke of a cover band.

I'll also add that "Am I losin" is one of my fav songs of all time.

Allman Brothers were probably more talented, but I preferred Skynyrd. Well except for that one song :)

Ronnie, Ed King, Collins, Powell, Steve Gaines, and Rossington were pretty dang talented. Duane, Warren, Gregg, and Dickie too. I'd say it's a toss up. It's more about what flavor of southern rock floats yer boat.

The ABB at times gets too monotonous for me. I prefer Pronounced, Second Helping, and One More From/For the Road over any ABB record. Street Survivor and after didn't do a lot for me.

I thought this thread was a joke - Allman Bro.s were in another world compared to LS.

It's like comparing Led Zeppelin to Pearl Jam.

ABB will forever be considered in the top tier. LS fits with 100s of bands in a tier or two below.

Led Zeppelin Black Sabbath Deep Purple. Trifecta of British metal. You could compare all day long but why would you?

It has a lot to do with how much organ you want and if you'd rather allocate more slide or distorted feed-back in your guitar picking, listening budget. Do you prefer pretty and mellow or dirty and kick-ass?

People that love the Grateful Dead, George Benson, or prefer Michael McDonald fronting their Doobies probably favor the ABB.

Using Spotify's monthly listeners as a proxy, it's 5.5 million for Skynyrd and 2.2 million for the ABB. However, that's the popular vote. The ABB might could take the electoral college.

I'm calling bull**** on the last sentence. Unless you're speaking of the tribute band that still tours under the LS brand.
