Better pay heupel

You’d be crazy to not hire Sexton if you’re the head man in Knoxville. That man knows how to squeeze greenbacks out of the athletic department.

He just received a million dollar raise - what were you thinking he needed and how much are you willing to chip in? Are you one of the one's that also felt we needed to give Fulmer a big raise before he slipped away.
1. See above - 1 M raise
2. I think his contract has bonus clauses
3. He loves it in Knoxville
4. He loves his AD
5. Can we wait till someone else tries to hire him away or are you recommending we just pay him because you are having a good day on the heels of our win yesterday?
6. Cart in front of horse much?

Given this line of reasoning, this has to be the real Fulmer.

Thanks for 1998 coach, but you still don’t think like a competent AD.

I didn’t say he’s worth the money. I asked who’s taking him? He got a raise and an extension 3 months ago, if he’s happy here and has no where else to go then what’s the point in upping his pay just for the sake of it.
His agent could find him a place to go by end of day tomorrow if CJH wanted.

I assume you expect to be paid like your peers in whatever you do or you feel dissatisfied with your employer and think about other job opportunities.

I also suspect your skill is not anywhere NEAR as scarce as a decent SEC coach. They don't grow on trees. We happen to have found a good one, a very good one at turning around a dumpster fire program and putting us back where we belong.

Seriously, they don't grow on trees and they get paid really good money....... or they go somewhere where they get paid really good money.
Not at all arguing he shouldn't be paid what top tier SEC coaches earn. I just truly believe all of them are grossly overpaid. Cardiologist doing heart transplants don't make near that. And that's a field that not just.anybody can step into

I garuntee you'll need a good doctor someday, more than you're ever going to need a good coach.

A bad coach, however, can cause you to need a good heart doctor.

At.$5mil/yr he isn't shopping at ollies , missus H isn't outfitting herself and the kids at goodwill and he doesn't shop for a good deal on a 2nd hand car.
That’s not as much as you think for all the time and dedication it takes to be the CEO of a football team year round.

He has to give his agent and uncle Sams huge cuts of that. 2.5m take home is nothing to cry about but still not what people make it out to be for someone probably working 80 hour weeks 40-45 weeks a year.

Supply and demand. No gifted surgeon gives it up to coach football. Don’t really read about cardiologists flocking to soup lines btw.

Heart surgeons don’t generate over $100 million.

CJH’s buyout needs to be hefty and will be, but saying we should wait till after next year to give him a raise is completely asinine. Stoops makes $9M at KENTUCKY! Kiffin in the same ballpark. HypeL has far superior results inside of two years with a bigger upside and better recruiting. His salary and contract extension will be announced soon as he will be paid around $9M plus incentives. And fortunately Danny White isn’t listening to those that think we ought to wait. If those in that boat think a guy like Heupel with the mind for football he has can be easily replaced, let me introduce you to the previous 12 years before he got here.

Agreed that the market is crazy but that's America.

Schools pay these guys because of the money they bring with the TV deals, etc. I'd imagine the Orange Bowl win alone brought UT enough to cover a salary bump of $3M for Heupel for about a year and half, if not more. It's a huge business and the important guys in big businesses make bank.

That's not my point. Given today's coaching salaries CJH is underpaid. But I can't feel sorry for anybody making 5mil
UT Athletics generates somewhere around $150M in revenue. It's an enormous business. Arguably there are 2 guys who make the biggest contribution to that revenue: Coach Josh Heupel and Coach Rick Barnes.

This isn't a Pop Warner football operation Heupel is running but an enormous business.

He's underpaid, most likely, for an executive VP of any business as large as he's a part of that generates the percentage of revenue he generates.

It's not a game. It's a business.

There’s no better job than UT currently open unless it’s an NFL job. So sure, he could find him a Sun Belt or MAC job if he wanted to make 1/5th of his current salary.
Heupel could go to the Big 12, most likely, if he's interested. I know Aranda was making about $5-6M.

Seriously, should an SEC coach that was a game away from the playoffs make what a Big 12 coach makes? Not if you want him to stay at your school......

Who has an opening in the Big 12?

If Heupel sent out feelers to the Big 12, someone would make room. He's a damn sight better than most there.

BTW, Sonny Dykes is making $6M. So do you think coaches in the SEC aren't better than Big 12 coaches? Heupel is making $6M also.

C'mon. There's no reason to disrespect the man. He's put in the work to turn around a disaster and turned it into nearly a CFP appearance. What's your problem with paying a man market value in the SEC?

I guarantee she shops at Goodwill. All women do now
It's a pretty good bet Heupel's kids aren't in public schools and if you think they're showing up in a good private school or at parties or games with friends from a good private school in Goodwill clothes, you haven't had kids in private schools.

They're probably in uniform for school but they're not going over to see "Tripp" and "Muffy" in second hand clothes, nor are they going to the mall in used duds.
