How much do you give to the university in donations and ticket purchases? The money has to come from somewhere. If Heupel sent out feelers to the Big 12, someone would make room. He's a damn sight better than most there.
BTW, Sonny Dykes is making $6M. So do you think coaches in the SEC aren't better than Big 12 coaches? Heupel is making $6M also.
C'mon. There's no reason to disrespect the man. He's put in the work to turn around a disaster and turned it into nearly a CFP appearance. What's your problem with paying a man market value in the SEC?
Football revenue from fans spending money. It’s very easy for you to sit at a keyboard and spend other people’s money. You know what happens when expenses increase? Revenue also has to increase to offset them, either via voluntary higher donations and/or ticket costs. The University Athletics program generates somewhere around $150M per year LARGELY due to football TV revenue.
Figure it out.
In 2024 the new ESPN contract starts....... and....How much do you give to the university in donations and ticket purchases? The money has to come from somewhere.
Sonny Dykes is playing for a nation title in year 1 at a school that went 5-7 last year and yes, he’s better than a handful of coaches in the SEC.
The revenue doesn't come from fans spending money. It comes from our tv contracts. Jeeze. Let's be clear. If you think these salaries are paid on the backs of fan tickets sales you are lost.Football revenue from fans spending money. He's an idiotIn 2024 the new ESPN contract starts....... and....
"The contract is worth a whopping US$3 billion, according to the New York Times, meaning the SEC will get an annual payment of US$300 million, which is over five times more than the yearly US$55 million it received from CBS."

You are surely not naive enough to believe the fans matter in this? The TV contract is ALL that matters and I showed you that deal is going up 5 fold.Football revenue from fans spending money. There's a limit but he's put in the work and he's underpaid. I'm not talking Saban money but somewhere in the $8-9M range is probably good and I'd not run the deal beyond 5 more years.Anyone worried about over paying CJH is an idiot.
I love Heupel. UT football is fun again.
Don't forget how the last 2 pay increases went for the program. Butch got paid after back to back 9-win seasons. Fired the next year. Pruitt got paid after the '19 season...and was fired after 2020. With that said, I'd probably pay the man but have it more incentive based. I like what another poster said...$5MM salary and $250K per win or something along those lines.

Sadly, he may not want to be tied down either. I can see Oklahoma being his dream job.
I'm sorry, but this is a crazy comment. I'm a doctor and don't make anything close to that, and we don't need for a thing. $2.5M allows one an extremely luxurious life with plenty left for charity and support for family members. That’s not as much as you think for all the time and dedication it takes to be the CEO of a football team year round.
He has to give his agent and uncle Sams huge cuts of that. 2.5m take home is nothing to cry about but still not what people make it out to be for someone probably working 80 hour weeks 40-45 weeks a year.
He damn near won a Heisman there and has history there, not all of which is good. Going back as a respected coach kind of verifies he wasn't the issue when he got fired there. Why do people think OU is his dream job?
Oklahoma is an absolutely terrible place to live. You could offer me double my income and I wouldn't even consider moving there. And, I've lived there before. He damn near won a Heisman there and has history there, not all of which is good. Mostly though, it's his alma mater and they'll be SEC. They'll have money and if he's interested, they'll pay him.
Norman does suck. I've not lived there but I have spent time there. I'll give you that.Oklahoma is an absolutely terrible place to live. You could offer me double my income and I wouldn't even consider moving there. And, I've lived there before.
Some schools will start doing this, as they well should, and you have raised a very accurate foreshadowing. But I think Tennessee has seen enough and knows what they have, and Danny White will make sure that his copilot is always very well compensated.I’m waiting on some school to do this except with higher incentives. Like some desperate school too. 6-7 million per year with like $500k to win division, $1m to win conference, $1m to make playoff, $2m to make natty, $5m to win natty.
Like who wouldn’t pay 15-20 million one time to win a natty if you weren’t guaranteed to be paying that amount every year unless you just won a natty every year.
I'll say this: if CJH leaves for Oklahoma, I'll be more surprised than when Kiffen bailed after one year.Norman does suck. I've not lived there but I have spent time there. I'll give you that.
The tug of an alma mater and a QB school recently makes me concerned. I predict they definitely show interest in him and I don't know Coach Heupel personally so I'm not sure how he feels but coaches often end up "going home."
Kiffin wasn't a known mercenary when he left but he is now. I don't think Heupel is a mercenary at all and I think Oklahoma is the only SEC school that could really tempt him.I'll say this: if CJH leaves for Oklahoma, I'll be more surprised than when Kiffen bailed after one year.
Danny White is going to give him a raise and rightfully so
