Beyond the discussion; where do you stand politically?

Relative to your current party affiliation, where are you politically?

  • I align 100% with my party.

  • My party (party candidate) has partially left me or is slowing leaving me.

    Votes: 9 10.8%
  • My party (party candidate) has mostly left me or is quickly leaving me

    Votes: 11 13.3%
  • I don't agree with my party (or candidates) anymore (but the other sucks worse).

    Votes: 23 27.7%
  • I've changed parties (officially or unofficially).

    Votes: 8 9.6%
  • This poll is the worst in the history of VN.

    Votes: 41 49.4%

  • Total voters
    83
I'm voting less for my party than against the radical leftist agenda of the other party.

I'm for 2A.
I'm for smaller government.
I'm against discrimination and for equal opportunity, but I also believe in individual responsibility (iow, don't blame others for your poor decisions).
I do not believe there is some grand, institutional conspiracy against minorities.
I'm against illegal immigration but for legal immigration, including streamlining it where necessary.
I'm against big social programs and generational welfare, and against just throwing money at problems.
I want to see the black community do better, but I believe it should involve a true emphasis on education, work programs, etc. There is also some introspection that the black community needs to do, particularly those of inner cities.
I believe everything should be done to bring more manufacturing back to the US. We need to diminish our reliance on China for goods.
China is not our friend.
While it is imperfect, the electoral college is the best method to make sure that middle America between the coasts is represented.
I'm for voter IDs and question the motives of anyone who is against it.
I am in favor of a decrease in defense spending. We need to stop being the world's police. Probably the biggest change to my political opinion in the last few years.

what he said plus....

I am against lifetime politicians. A lot of people (myself included) bought in to the so called term limits contract that was promised in 1994 that obviously never happened.
No sustained coherent energy policy...been going on for decades & both parties....ridiculous

Tough choice. The absence of a “second worst poll ever” choice makes this the worst poll ever; however, upon becoming the worst poll ever, it no longer needs the “second worst poll ever” option, which makes it the second worst poll ever and there is no choice for that...

They've always been anti-abortion. They've always been for legal immigration, they've always been against illegal immigration. I don't wtf you are talking about religion. his country, including republicans are miles and miles away from religion. Not even close. Sounds like you've moved away not the republicans.
I would say they’ve moved to the right on several issues.

1980 platform:
“The Republican Party vigorously supports the right of the United States citizens of Puerto Rico to be admitted into the Union as a fully sovereign state after they freely so determine. We believe that the statehood alternative is the only logical solution to the problem of inequality of the United States citizens of Puerto Rico within the framework of the federal Constitution, with full recognition within the concept of a multicultural society of the citizens' right to retain their Spanish language and traditions.”

“We hail the teachers of America. Their dedication to our children is often taken for granted, and they are frequently underpaid for long hours and selfless service, especially in comparison with other public employees.”

“We must maintain our commitment to the aged and to the poor by providing quality care through Medicare and Medicaid.“

“Social Security is one of this nation's most vital commitments to our senior citizens. We commit the Republican Party to first save, and then strengthen, this fundamental contract between our government and its productive citizens.“

“We reaffirm our commitment to the fundamental principle of fairness in labor relations, including the legal right of unions to organize workers and to represent them through collective bargaining consistent with state laws and free from unnecessary government involvement. We applaud the mutual efforts of labor and management to improve the quality of work life.”

1992 republican platform:

“We affirm the right of individuals to form, join or assist labor organizations to bargain collectively, consistent with state laws.“

“Both houses of Congress must guarantee protection to whistleblowers to encourage employees to report illegality, corruption, sexual harassment and discrimination.”

“We will require congressional candidates to raise most of their funds from individuals within their home constituencies. This will limit outside special-interest money and result in less expensive campaigns, with less padding for incumbents. To the same end, we will strengthen the role of political parties to remove pressure on candidates to spend so much time soliciting funds. We will eliminate political action committees supported by corporations, unions or trade associations, and restrict the practice of bundling.”

“We affirm the right of American citizens in the United States territories to seek the full extension of the Constitution with the accompanying rights and responsibilities, and we support all necessary legislation to permit them to do so.”

“We pledge continued pressure to open world markets through the Uruguay Round, the North American Free Trade Agreement and bilateral negotiations.”

In addition, the Republican Party supports increased research and development to reduce ethanol production costs and expand its use in motor fuel markets. Such use will greatly help American farmers, improve the rural economy and reduce our dependence on imported oil.“

“Because the environment knows no boundaries, President Bush has accelerated U.S. research on global climate change, spending $2.7 billion in the last three years and requesting $1.4 billion for 1993, more than the rest of the world put together.”

“Adverse changes in climate must be the common concern of mankind”

I think I realized the other day part of the reason I am voting for tump besides liking his policies much better.... I feel trump is the same person as a politician as he is on the golf course... at the job site.... around his friends or family.... the overwhelming majority of other politicians on both sides seem so absolutely fake to me.

We totally agree here. He’s surely a scumbag a**hole all the time.

I picked worst poll in VN history because none of the options were applicable.
I would have picked "I align about 85% with my party, which has remained pretty consistent."

I considered you for one of the folks who align 100% with party. 85% isn't too far off.

What is the 15% where you're deviating?

I got you. ^^^
Your list, imo, illustrates the absurdity of our apoplexy when it comes to the others side's political positions. The list from the 80's and 2000's is unchanged compared to today. Medicare, SS, "affirming" teachers, the right for labor to organize, etc are all still unchanged. Maybe there is a difference today with PR and climate change. As far as I can tell, climate science is still being funded from the national coffers.

I know this will probably remind you of your advanced age, but my only real memories of Ford are of watching Chevy Chase's impressions of him on Saturday Night Live.

Probably true..... but would you rather know he’s a scum bag a**hole or have someone who puts on a front of being a great guy, but in reality is a scum bag a**hole?

That's a marketing slogan created for History Departments at Universities. History Majors increased exponentially. Many are still working in restaurants to this day. ;)

Completely disagree on backing teachers. Rs have recently imposed standardized education models, made concerted efforts to bust teacher’s unions, and lead PR campaigns disparaging public educators.

Also disagree on labor in general. Rs have, in recent years, lead the charge to bust all unions.

Medicare and SS is more of an inference. If anyone has been flirting with the idea of tanking either it’s the Rs.

I am focused and what is actually passed as law. Or actual changes to reality instead of rhetoric. If we could believe the rhetoric, Rs are still fiscally conservative and wanting smaller government (LOL).
