Bible War!

You are making implications into my post I didn't intend. I was only trying to distinguish his faith.

There is no way to prove whether or not GOD made the disasters happen.

Simply turning it around on you. I knew I was likely making implications you did not intend. You also did this very thing. You are correct about proving God's responsibility, it is a matter of faith for the individual.

I didn't say the source isn't credible. I said no law has been passed because the Bible said so. I said the legislators have been influenced by those touting the "because the Bible said so" as the reason for their viewpoint.

I'm OK with the laws being passed for that reason, so long as it is in line with the majority view of the country (in most cases).

I can appreciate your viewpoint and at some point in the past agreed to a very limited extent, but I was just dead wrong. In our nation, with our founding fathers' fixation on freedom from religious tyrrany, supporting law with a religious document is just unacceptable. Law needs to be supported by concensus and nothing else.

Our system of government is not founded simply on doing what the majority/consensus wants. That is an extremely dangerous form of government and our Cosntitution was, in large part, specifically designed to avoid it.

which I've stated several times since the original post.

I do not see your logic on the Constititional delagates. There is no arguing that they looked to the Bible AND they leaned on World history. So, both are true and I do not know how that could make anyone mad.

Exactly........... I was stating what people think.

I am not foolish enough to believe that the founders intended the country to be a theocracy or that they were all deeply religious folk.

I have no doubt they believed in God..... but to what extent their faith was we will never know.

I went through a period of doubting God and religion as I knew it. For a couple of years I studied different religions and saw many similarities and differences. Many Christian beliefs were borrowed or based upon the beliefs of other cultures as you said. This would make sense being that the Jews spent much of their history either wandering through or settled in lands which had drastically different cultures. This is very evident in the Old Testament. For example the Arc of the Covenant is similar in many ways to descriptions of Egyptian "boxes" that the preists used.

I know this is going off subject, but have you actually ever sat down to think about the Ark of the Covenant?

Do you know how it is described it would weigh almost 2 tons........

Do you believe this actually happened? If so, because the Bible said so?

It was an earth quake and the area has ash fires from the sky on a constant basis..........

Most of this is easy to explain......

Like the flood is easily explained by the bosphurus flooding out....

Oh, I thought this might be another thread about religion causing wars..

You know................ ok..... I am calm.

What other things cause wars?

Money, land, resources, families, anger, arrogance, greed...etc..........

No reason to single it out......

I have no issue with Christianity as a whole but I do have a problem when people try and use it to interfere with the freedoms this country in founded on. It is no one's job to make the judgments they believe God is responsible for but many think it is. I feel if more religious people that are so concerned with everyone else would put those efforts into their own home then the country would be better off. I know I have a hard enough time taking care of me and my fiance and want no part in someone else's life choices.

I am closely in line with you.... every thing is about freedom. You should have the right to think how you want when you want.

A few years back I would have went along with the no gay rights crowd or be against gay marriage....

In the end..... I have the right not to agree with their lifestyle....... in turn they should be able to live how they choose......

Wrong, liberalism is becoming a religion in and of itself... they focus as hard to take God out of everything as a Christian does to prove there is a God. It's not just policy choices, it's belief, values, science etc. that they try to "force".

I disagree and would say that climate change and global warming is a religion because it is based on faith.

If you pay close attention it is described a little differently. It was probably made from beaten metal then plated with gold.

I could see a thin beaten metal shell weighing 500 at most adding another 50 to 100 for the plating.

That is just the box structure..... there is a lot more to it!

I believe the Ark was of Greek influence that the Jews in the area brought back with them to Egypt and the promised land.

I originally thought that too but after reading about some work being done around Egypt I came across some interesting references to objects that sounded very similar to the Ark. They were used by the priests in ancient Egypt. There are also Greek references to these same type objects but the author of the book seemed to think they originated in Egypt and through the Egyptian and Greek trade network the idea and technology spread. It could easily be the other way around though I am sure.

This will sound silly..... but I agree......

Either way the influence is there.........

Also, I tried to find some pics, but a lot of Greek Coins have the image of the Ark on one of their sides.
