Big 12 adding 4 schools

Lots of talk they will merge with pac 12 flying.

That's not going to happen. The Pac 12 deciding not to expand is what led to the Big XII adding these 4. What is it about the addition of UCF, Cincy, BYU, and Houston would make them go "we didn't want any of these teams before, but now we absolutely have to have them!"?

it's speculation flying around social rn, but multiple sources saying they are not done. we'll see. The idea is there are a few schools that would be interested in listening to the big 12, and if that happens the pac might relent.

I thought this funny.

Oh come on, dude. Where do you come up with this nonsense, and why do you believe it? If the Big XII thought they could poach any of the Pac 12 members, why in the world would they have added UCF, BYU, Cincinnati, and Houston?

so guys who make their living reporting this stuff (like dennis dodd) are saying this for no reason. got it.

do I look like a freaking commish to you? I'm a spectator, and there's been some truth to everything I've said. I'm just having fun watching the game, I'm not playing.

Oh idk...The big 12 is now a bigger conference with top ten schools? more tv exposure?

Bigger? They may have added schools and geography, but they are not "bigger" in any sense of the word that actually matters. UCF, Houston, BYU, and Cincy combined for $86,397,705 in football revenue in 2019. Texas pulled in $144,426,105 and OU made $101,881,969. So these schools aren't even replacing the revenue brought in by either one of the departing programs.

As far as TV exposure, no one watches the Big XII if OU or Texas isn't involved. The TV ratings for the other teams are terrible, and the incoming programs aren't going to move the needle.

The Pac 12 has its own issues. None of those issues even remotely compares to the mess the Big XII is in.

I cant see a joiner between the PaC and Big 12 for a political reason either. PAC is in the three team alliance wanting to limit playoff invites to 4 conference champs. Big 12, especially the new guys, cant be in favor of their options being limited, defeats the whole purpose of joining for the new schools.

Who else are they going to get that moves a needle? Noone with spark.
Would be hard to pull a team from the Big 10 because of payouts. My guess would be Boise State, Memphis, poach Louisville from the ACC and maybe Colo. State to get to 16.

SDS posted an article on FB saying Memphis and Boise St could be considered in a second round of expansion. Seems to be the only 2 decent options left, so why not?
