Vandy is working out well into the future but to be fair perfectgame is ranking those guys at the same pace or even sooner. It could easily be said they are just looking at perfectgame website and starting their recruiting list there

What? And South Carolina and LSU and Arkansas are all just looking at the PG ratings and getting commits?

I mean I've been following our recruiting since CDS' 2nd year or so...we've never been out front, but I don't recall us ever being behind every SEC team, we've always been ahead of Missouri.

Thinking the uncertainty makes no difference in this scenario doesn't make sense.

I was just saying that Vandy isnt exactly raiding the 8th grades and discovering unknown players

Baseball recruiting is much different than football. Some Years schools might only sign 5-7 guys.

I havnt studied our roster but guess we need nowhere close to 16 like Vandy has committed

We're talking about juniors in high school in this instance, by the time these guys are juniors every major league team and every major college team knows about these guys. Sure they have the chance to move up like Garrett Davilla and Trey Cabbage did, but the book is almost closed by the time these guys are sophs in HS.

There was a time where I didn't understand the recruiting cycle in baseball, but I have a better handle on it now and over the past couple of years.

We do have a large 2016 class by CDS standards, but we also have a ton of upper classman, 8 Seniors, and 8 Juniors.

LSU, VANDY and FLORIDA have 6 seniors...COMBINED on current rosters.

We'd have room for at least 10-12 players in 2017, at least...we had an 11 man class in 2015 (lost 4 to the draft) so we have 7 freshman, but we went and added 5 JUCO's and one of them is already gone.

The only point I'm trying to make here is that the uncertainty regarding CDS' future has to be on his mind with out of state kids and on the mind of the parents of out of state players and I bet the same applies to very highly rated in state kids and their families too.

How could it not?

Outside of Corbin I think kids commit to schools more so than coaches in baseball.

I don't think there is near as much "who am I going to play for but more where am I going to play in the SEC in baseball.

Corbin is the only one that really holds that much weight IMO

Excited to get the season under way and see what the Vols have in store for us this season. I DO believe they will have a better and more productive season. Let's be positive and support this team like only Volnation can......also these new uniforms are sweet, how can we get our hands on some of those?

Well TJ for starters, I'm betting on practice starting next weekend around Jan. 28,29,30...

I have no idea who the guys for the weekend will be but I think Andy Cox, Kyle Serrano, Hunter Martin, Jon Lipinski (new JUCO), and Zach Warren will all get a shot, maybe Arron Soto, Freshman Will Neely.

Relievers/Closers: Steven Kane, Kyle Serrano, Zach Reid, Eric Freeman, Quint Robinson, Richard Jackson, Alex Harper-Cook

I don't know the status of Jacob Westphal, I'm assuming he won't pitch this season due to TJ Surgery.

At Catcher: Benito Santiago, Tyler Schultz

At 1B: Domminick Cammarata, Freshman Daniel Neal

At 2B: Jeff Moberg, Jared Pruett, Max Bartlett

At SS: Brett Langhorne, Max Bartlett

At 3B: Nick Senzel, Leno Ramirez (JUCO)

At CF: Vincent Jackson, Brodie Leftridge, Bryant Harris

At LF: Chris Hall, Matt Waldren, Bryant Harris

At RF: Derek Lance, Matt Waldren, Bryant Harris, Jordan Rodgers

Freshman Impact Players

Pitchers: Will Neely, Alex Harper-Cook

IF: Daniel Neal

OF: Bryant Harris

C: Sean Skelly

We'll know more in a month!

GBO!!!

Wait, what about Jordan Rogers? He played extremely well at several positions last season and came through offensively as well. Is he hurt? Pruett I hope gets to be in the line up as he also contributed with the bat last season! Let us know how the team looks come the practices next week.

you are right about Jordan, he struggled a bit early however when he became a regular in the outfield last year he really shined. He has the potential to play both infield and outfield if needed.

As far as who initially starts, I imagine the top 8 who hit the most consistent over the next month will be out there playing.....

Sorry, it was just an oversight on my part, he will definitely be in the mix and he can play IF or OF, I added him to the list at RF because he played there some last year, he might get a look at 1B or 2B as well...if he hits at the beginning of the season like he did at the end he'll get a spot.

I also didn't really address DH, but both guys you mentioned could be in the mix there, JR could back up Nick Senzel at 3B for the occasional day off and NS could DH...Pruett, Hall and VJax could all hit in the one spot...it's making my head hurt thinking of all the variables...but yeah I will endeavor to get to some practices, let's just keep our fingers crossed for good weather.

If Hall could be an effective lead-off hitter this year our chances of a "better than expected" year increase tremendously. Hopefully with a year of SEC ball under his belt he'll be up to the challenge.

Ideally Hall leads-off with Senzel hitting 3rd followed by V-Jax and we plug the other spots with who's hot........can't wait for the season to get started!

Should be a fun team to watch with all the depth. Also excited to see the way Kyle Serrano plays. Hopefully he can cut down on the number of allowed walks and be a consistent weekend starter. Would love to see the baseball vols make some noise in the postseason this year, as they should...

vol66 keep the post coming as you find out more.. Love reading your stuff!
