Bigger than beating Kansas

I think 2nd-3rd best all time is going far.

It was, at the very best, the 2nd biggest win that year.

Yep, first may be a battle with 2010 Ohio State and 2008 Memphis, then arguably 2010 Kansas. Both were better teams than 2010 Ohio State, but the implications of the win were (arguably) more imporant with the Ohio State win.

I think Kruger already gets plenty of respect from people that matter. The only concern I'd have is that he's starting to get some age on him. His assistants will need to handle a great deal of the legwork in recruiting.

The same people that pat Jim Calhoun on the back for being a legendary coach yet completely forget he is a cheater and liar?

I don't see how this applies to Kruger. He hasn't had any marked run-ins with the NCAA that I can recall.

He just hasn't won a lot of conference championships.

Agreed. I could understand saying the Kentucky win that year was also bigger. The biggest thing to me about the Kansas win was it was after those players were suspended before the game.

I'd also argue for the win over Florida in their second title season and maybe even Pearl's win over Texas his first year. I'm sure there are other huge wins in the past I'm not considering, but I've been referring to Pearl's tenure more than anything.

98 ky win at Rupp.

Probably wouldnt rate it that high except we just couldnt send John Ward off to retirement w/o one more BIG ORANGE whoopin at Rupp.

No way that preseason tourney win over a so-so Michigan team is better than the Vols' 2nd-3rd best win all time.

Solid effort on the thread though.

They do not give out trophies for OOC victories in the regular season. Tennessee momentum wise has fan support and a season and a recruiting class riding on a solid Maui

And beating Michigan (Michigan, not Michigan State) is going to wow recruits and give you the momentum to run through the regular season?

Michigan will almost certainly be ranked higher than Michigan State heading into that part of the season.

And yes beating a team that drubbed you by 30 will serve notice that Martin can coach and that TN is legit even without Bruce Pearl.

We may want to wait until November when the pundits write about the many reasons why Tennessee showing up in the invitational in a big way is so incredibly important for the program.

Sorry man. A solitary win over Michigan is nothing to get hot in the arse about. They most likely will be ranked higher than MSU, but I'd be more excited about young Martin beating an Izzo coached squad rather than Belien's goofy kids.

The thought that a win over Michigan, even if they are in the top 25, would do more for your program than beating the #1 Jayhawks at home with half a roster is laughable. I'm literally laughing at the thought.

Are you trying to minimize the importance of beating a team coming off a .500 conference season that included blowout losses to Indiana and Northwestern?

Not sure how if I would rank a certain win in November that high, but with the field that will be in Maui, for this team to win a game or 2 would be great.

UCLA, Duke, Kansas, Georgetown, Michigan, and Memphis is a great field.

Any win early in the season will be big for Martin. However, basketball has a long season and the progress of the team throughout the season will be the real story.

Would need to know whether Harris is coming back obviously. Also will be wanting to wait until our schedule is finally out.

I'm disappointed that MHF hasn't already told us if Hopson and Harris will turn pro and how many wins we have next season. Can't let little things like actual roster and schedule impact predictions.

Reports out that Darius Morris isn't returning. Yeah, beating Michigan would be a huge deal. I think Martin would be able to skip the nomination process and be inducted in Springfield and Kansas City by acclamation.

Martin would clearly be recognized as the greatest coach in TN history if he can beat Michigan. After all, the previous greatest coach lost to them by 30.

Despite projections of being a bubble-first-round choice, and the advice of scouts who said Morris would be better off staying in school, the Sophomore point guard has decided to keep his name in the draft according to this tweet by Draft Express.

So Andy Katz was wrong.

Does Hat really think that losing Morris is a bigger blow to the Maize and Blue than losing Harris and Hopson is for the Vols? hilarious if true

I don't recall anyone saying that Morris would be a bigger loss than the combo of Harris and Hopson.
