He's playing at Minnesota now??

Yep, he's a gopher.

And, as for Diogu, I'm not sure how highly regarded he was as a high school player, but he was pretty unproductive for us...only caught 1 pass as a vol, although it did produce a first down :hmm:

I thought about that after I posted that. We didn't use him much.

ronnie pillow was a productive FB at UT if I am not mistaken.

Does anyone remember a guy name Travis Cozart? Supposed to be the next great RB....... never played a down

Heath was heavily recruited out of high school wasnt he?

Bendedict? Oh yeah, pretty heavily recruited.

In fact, I know this probably sounds untrue, but I'm actually the one that got him interested in Tennessee. At the time, Heath was a freshman in HS, but had the body of a college tight end (6-foot-4, 250lbs.)...he was living in Greenville, SC and was just starting to get interested in football. He said if he got the chance to play college ball, he'd probably go to Clemson or SC. I harrassed him daily about becoming a Vol...told him he'd never win a championship anywhere else, and couldn't match the pageantry and tradition of Vol football anywhere else.

He transferred off to New Jersey later in his high school career and blew up as a national prospect...I never spoke with him again, but he signed with the Big Orange. I know our coaches recruited him well, but I planted the seed...and now, looking back on it, all I can say is, I'm sorry.

If you're talking about Shuler, then yeah, he was a top 2 or 3 QB coming out. Article on ESPN a week or so ago was talking to coaches about their biggest recruiting loss and Mack Brown (then at UNC) said losing Shuler stunted their program's progress more than any other recruit. Brown saw Shuler as the marquee guy that would have put UNC on the major players map.

Ronnie Pillow was not productive, you are mistaken. He was overshadowed by a guy named Shawn Bryson, and Mose Phillips before him at FB. Pillow was supposed to be a stud tailback, I bet he never gained much more than 100 yards. I don't even think he graduated from UT. I had just started watching UT football when Kelly left and shuler came along, I was only in grade school. Didn't really follow recruiting then, but I do remember people saying that Shuler was better than they thought he would be.

Played bball against him in HS. He couldn't make the test scores to get in. Still remember the look on his face when the whole gym was chanting "ACT" while he was shooting FT's. Thought he might kill someone.

you are right. I was thinking of Mose Phillips (and I should have know that since Phillips single handedly beat my team in high school)

A family member of mine works for FedEx, and at the time Cozart was in High School he delivered Lenior City. He said he would always see Nebraska, Tenn, Alabama letters comming in.

But who really cares; Cozart went on to feed his baby crack. A real nice guy.
