Bilas names McRae SEC CPOY

I don't agree at all. He gets SEC POY this year and he'll be all over first round going into nex year. As long as he averages 13+ with a good fg% and he has some blow up games he'd keep that grade. His ceiling IMO is late first round, whether that's this year or next.

I'm talking about what he has to do to get first round for 2013, not 2014. If he gets his average of 16 pts against Auburn, Mizz, and 1st round SEC, but we lose all 3 games, then I don't think McRae gets any 1st round talk this year at all. To get into the projections at the end of the year, then I think he needs to continue to score above his average and get the National attention by having a good run in the SEC tourney and play a couple games in the NCAA. Otherwise, flaming out could have McRae's opportunity to go out this year flame out as well.

Gotcha, yea I agree. It's almost a win/lose for Tennessee. Tennessee wins 4 in a row, makes the dance, but jordy scores 20 a game in that span, he will get himself a lot of national recognition.

Jordan McRae trying to stay focused amid SEC player of the year, NBA rumblings » GoVolsXtra

"One NBA scout told the News Sentinel on Monday that McRae is indeed on the league’s radar. The guard’s natural, versatile scoring ability and improved 3-point shooting is attractive. His 6-foot-5, 178-pound frame, though, project him as an undersized two guard.

It’s far too early to discuss the specifics — the potential of McRae entering the draft early or if and when he’d be selected — but the talk exists.

“I think when it’s all said and done, he’ll be there (the NBA),” Martin said."

And then Jordan revealed last night he lost a cousin to gun violence yesterday apparently...stay strong Jordy.

Scotty was just beginning to play to his potential when he left. He very easily could've been a 20+ ppg scorer if he'd returned. As a lot of people have said, though, he just didn't have a grasp on the mental aspects of the game.

I've had a tremendous amount of respect for Scottie Wilbekin because of the lock-down D he played on Hopson in one of our three losses to Florida in Hopson's final season. Hopson was lighting up Florida until Donovan subbed in Wilbekin in the middle of the second half to guard Hopson. Shut him down and we ended up losing because they took away our #1 scoring option. And I know it's silly to make one to one situational comparisons like this, but McRae scored at will on Wilbekin last week (while giving up two inches to Hopson). McRae understands the mental aspects of the game, and Scotty didn't. Still say that Scotty was one of the most prolific players we've had at UT, he just didn't have it upstairs.

Agree. SH was a very good player who gets a lot of unwarranted grief from people on here.

Loved this part of Quinn's article:

“Don’t do that don’t do that,” Jordan McRae began, before the inevitable question reached completion. “C’mon man. I have no thoughts(on that). Tennessee basketball, Auburn, Missouri — that’s my only focus right now.”

I'd be doing the same thing. Wouldn't want to hear anything about all this garbage amidst such a pivotal point in the season. Can do nothing but weigh you down.

I believe Martin has this team focused. Some (one) likes to criticize Stokes for not showing emotion, but I think that's focus. Prove me right, boys!

Agree. I can't really think of an instance this season when I've been disappointed with a player's body language. I'm sure several people on here will disagree.

This guy wont disagree with you. I love our overall team body language. Will have to say Golden is quick to drop his head, when things dont go well. But like I've sad before, I just think CCM has to kinda walk on eggshells(so to speak) with him because his is such an important part, and we have NO back-up.

Yep, but even with Golden dropping his head when things aren't going his way, I don't necessarily have a problem with it. He still comes back aggressively, which is what you want to see.

I think the way it sits right now McRae would go in the second round but the way he's scoring the ball inside and out makes him a lot hotter commodity. That's what the NBA wants especially in a player of Jordan's size ....

McRae has yet to make it on any of the 2013 mock drafts. From what I've seen, he's still projected mid 2nd round of 2014. Most draft boards have not been updated in awhile. Probably see most updated after the big tourny.

It would be best for McRae if he some how possibly go this year if he blows up in the tourny and can get in the first round projections. I just don't think next year with Maymon back and Hubbs in the line up, that McRae will be able to put up the numbers that he will this year.

I hope Scotty Hopson gives McRae a call before McRae makes a decision. I am sure that he would tell him NOT to go early...

No doubt McRae's stock is on the rise, but if the draft were today, I'd be shocked if he got drafted.

I'm sure your right. And I understand the financial impact of get'em yours when you can. But just watching this kid and how much he loves playing college basketball, coupled with finishing his degree and I think he stays.

Since part of the knock on him to this point has been consistancy, I am not so sure his stock wouldnt rise next year with equal or maybe even lessor numbers.

They have a bigger sample for NBA scouts to evaluate. Wilcox has been balling at UW for 3 years. And they're all late 2nd round picks.

McRae has just all of a sudden shown up here in SEC play this season. I think NBA scouts would want to see more of him before he'd get drafted.

I agree, but that's why I say if they make a SECT run, and then make the dance, and he continues this surge in those games...it may be enough. I do agree though, right now the sample size is entirely too small for him to get a very good grade, you don't leave for a late 2nd round grade (at least you shouldn't).

Not to mention he has a passion and fire for the game that Scotty never seemed to have.

I think they just showed it different. Jordy is a expressive person always has been. Hopson was a laid back I'll show it on the court without the screaming. Just like Jarnell. It's just different. Jordy has to do that because he usually is the spark in the game.

Disagree, Hopson had no fire. You shut him down the first 5 minutes and he was done, that's not the case for Jordan.

Exactly. I'm not saying Hopson didn't care about the game. Some guys play every game like it's their last one, some guys appear to take it for granted. Just their personalities.

If KCP played on a contending team then I'd have no problem with him winning it but in conference play Mcrae is putting up just as good numbers on an uptrending team. I don't get where the commentators where read to give it to KCP.
