Bill O’Brien

at this point what’s the difference between nothing and Pruitt?

Freeze’s offense is exciting but I have no idea why Tennessee fans want a dude who coached from a hospital bed lol. It was a gimmick and a joke. Freeze is like a dirty Butch Jones, yeah he will probably win the east once or twice but we’ll get a three year bowl ban from his antics.

First time caller and might be my only post ever, but what about bill O’Brien to come in and replace Pruitt? I feel like after what he was able to do with penn state on the verge of the death penalty he could actually stand toe to toe with Saban. Especially with the right coordinators. Feel free to tear up my opinion as vol nation loves to.
Let’s bring in Jeff Fisher too

He got a lot of kids to come to State when they didn’t have to. He’d stabilize the program but I doubt he’d get us anything note worthy

I’ve always wondered what “stabilizing a program” means when it comes to coaching in college football. It sounds like a nicer way to say he would only be slightly above average.

Ding ding ding
He’d get the roster full with talent at spots but never be the guy that gets a championship. A poor mans Mark Richt, Kirby Smart etc

They want to win and a lot
They’re tired of playing behind the 8 ball
They’re tired of coaches who coward to their rival coaches
Everybody cheats. Why can’t Tennessee at least bend the rules a little?

In 2018 they had Watson and Hopkins on O. Watt, Clowney, and Mathieu on D. They lost in the first round. Pass.

If that’s all you have it’s easy to roll coverage and take away the star.... One dimensional offenses aren’t fun ask any Tennessee fan

I think bill O’Brien the GM got him fired as a coach because he was too focused on fixing the monstrosity of an o line they had. He finished in the top 50 in both of his recruiting classes amongst the crap that was going on at penn state. I think that was quite a feat.

And he was Big 10 Coach of the Year in 2012.

Was OC for the New England Patriots.
Offensive minded coach that could maximize talent at the college level.

Yes he'd be a great get. No question.

He would be a homerun hire. It's likely his future is in the NFL though. His ascension to GM was basically a cluster due to Houston's ownership trying and failing to hire anyone and the deadbeat GM that was removed had 50 million in cap space and didn't go after anyone of note in the free agent market. The Texans basically told O'Brien to handle GM duties for the 2019 season. They went to franchise tag Clowney who then said he'd pull a LaVeon Bell and sit out the year if they did, so they traded him. It has since came out that the executive VP of the team is the one who demanded they trade Hopkins. Hopkins signed a big contract then immediately started talking about holding out for an even bigger contract. He has since stated that he wanted to be traded and basically did a bunch of things to ensure it happened. So you basically had the GM role thrust upon O'Brien early in 2019. Hopkins had already made his mind up then that he was going to act out until he got traded. The executive VP who is known to "sow distrust and division in the locker room" demanded the trade happen. O'Brien just took the blame for everything.

And Pete Carroll was 34-33 as a NFL HC before USC hired him.

I just looked it up, and he was 33-31. But, your point is still valid, and I’m sure the coaching geniuses on here would have be dumping all over him, too.

I’m not advocating that UT necessarily hire O’Brien, but he is a better option than many think.

In his 6 full seasons in Houston, they won their division in 4 of them. Only 1 losing season out of those 6.

And he was 8-4 and 7-5 at Penn State under probation and other very difficult circumstances.

The guy CAN coach.

I disagree with the Bill O'Brien idea but you're take doesn't suck. I see you're pretty new so welcome to the crazy train.

As a coach, I think he'd be a great get! As a recruiter, I'm admittedly curious about him just because of how bad of a GM he was in Houston. They did him wrong by not having a true GM in there, but some of his personnel decisions made me wonder if he is able to identify talent.
Recruited very well at Penn State during sanctions. He was the reason he was the GM in Houston. Campaigned for it and supplied the knife.

33-31 is regular season. He 1-2 in the playoffs.
