The AA tournament is the ultimate marathon. Getting though the first 2 games should be expected most every year by the "blue bloods" (UK, KU, Duke, UNC..) You make the final 8 it's a good year. Anything past that is a really good year.

Agreed. I feel like the Sweet Sixteen is where a lot of the pretenders lose, so I'm good with an Elite Eight and very happy with anything beyond it.

Boeheim I actually think is overrated. The other big name coaches, not so much.

I think you could pick on guys like Scott Drew or Mark Turgeon in that they could have great teams but are just "pretty good." You always hear about Baylor being "long" and "athletic" and primed to make deep tournament runs but they don't do it consistently.

I wouldn't be so quick to write Mark Turgeon off. He and Self have followed similar career paths. Turgeon resurrected Wichita State from the ashes and then continued what Billy Gillispie built at A&M. If anything were to happen with Self at KU I wouldn't be surprised if Kansas gave the former Jayhawk (PG) and native son (Topeka) a call.

As for Scott Drew, I'm happy (but not content) with 2 Elite Eights and Two Sweet Sixteens in the past 8 seasons. His two EE runs were ended by the eventual Nation Champions (Duke and Kentucky). I see Drew as a long term lifer along the lines of Al McGuire and Ray Meyer. At age 46, Drew still has 15-20 years to make that one magical run that McGuire and Meyer made at Marquette and DePaul, respectively.

Pretty much every national champion would be greatly affected if you took the best player away so that logic shouldn't be a negative on Boehiem.

So what if Cal didn't have Anthony Davis on that 2012 UK's squad? Would he have won an National Title that year?

What if we didn't have Al Wilson in'98? Or Peerless Price? Great players also make coaches great. What if Coach K didn't have Christian Laettner or Grant Hill? What if Ryan Leaf had Coach Cut as a QB coach?

Meh. If people criticize Calipari because he only wins with good recruiting classes, I don't see why it's unfair to criticize Boeheim for only winning with an NBA superstar.

I think it is worth mentioning with Boeheim given that it took him having a future NBA scoring champion and perennial all star on his squad to win his only title.

Many other coaches have won multiple titles with a "best player" nowhere near as good as Anthony.

Biggest problem I with Boehiem is he refuses to play games outside the state of New York...excluding conference games.

What if Wooden didn't have Lew or Walton or whatever? How is that logic fair? It's just a big what if game.

Won two championships before them.
