Bill's Baseball Thread [Experts ONLY]

Rickey is/was dumber than rocks and cocky as hell. I have no doubt he was a self absorbed a-hole. But he was great to watch on the field - I love the stolen base (a dying art in modern day ball).
My friend in HS was huge Cardinals fan so we hung out at hotel trying to get autographs. Tony Gwynn came there and signed a while and he was cool. He mentioned many of the players went to the strip club so that's where we went.

I met Eric the Red in Vegas at the 2008ish MLB Winter Meetings. Really down to the earth guy. Looked like he could still play. Met Eddie Murray the same night and dude was massive and so intimidating.

Big fan of both those guys.

Frank Howard came into a restaurant where I worked in the mid 90s, dude was huge.

Ah, so you went to a strip club to meet players then?

Does this mean that you read Playboy for the interviews?

No, just needed an excuse to get friend to stop stalking baseball players in the lobby. Platinum was it. I was 17. Not a lot of thinking going on here.

@volfanbill Nice Thread title. Although I am a Braves Fan, loved the Big Red Machine in the 70's. Watched a lot of Baseball with my dad during that period.

Lifelong Reds fan. I took my oldest son to see the Reds exhibition game at the Nashville Sounds park 1 year in the late 80's. Maybe 1989? My son was about 6 or 7. He brought a ball and wanted autographs. Most of the players were friendly and signed before the game. Browning, Dibble and Charlton came into the stands after about the 5th inning and mingled. Browning was super nice. Charlton was pretty nice. Dibble acted annoyed but signed a lot of balls. The biggest disappointment was Eric Davis. He was my son's favorite player and he refused to sign any autographs. He stayed well away from the stands. People were calling his name to get him to come over but he never did. My son still displays that ball at his home. Larkin, Sabo, O'neill, Danny Jackson, Mariano Duncan, Joe Oliver, Benzinger, Oester, Browning, Charlton, Dibble, Rijo, Armstrong, Birtsas. I'm forgetting some-he got over 20 autographs that day.

that stinks about Davis. I will say meeting him in my experience was in a setting of all baseball personnel (Ftr, I worked in the most minor of minor leagues at the time). So maybe that was why it was different. Or hopefully he changed and mellowed over time

I saw him at the Food City in Church Hill 2-3 years back when he was coaching the K Mets.

If y’all ever meet Joe Maddon, I hope you don’t have anything lined up soon. Dude can talk forever about everything.

I just bought these

Men's Gravity 10

They used to be one of my favorite shoes for long runs. There’s a 30 day return/exchange policy if they don’t work out
