Anybody have any tips for a nervous flyer going on their first overseas flight besides medication (have some) or booze (planning to get sauced during layover) or melatonin? I don't want to take up at the destination in the morning (their time) and need to be ready to go with no sleep. The longest I've ever been able to sleep on an airplane is about 30 seconds.
I fly somewhat often but the thought of getting into a metal tube with engines attached to it and flying over open ocean is still kind of unnerving.

Watch Airplane! before you leave, that should offer some comfort. Or a few episodes of Air Disasters.
Honestly just try to relax and remember theres hundreds and probably thousands of highly trained individuals that have helped contribute to the safety of your flight. Or like you said drugs and booze.
Also what sucks is the people get on last and complain about no undergrad space above therir seat.. really???
