Birther issue is coded racism?

I'm consistent on it. As I say, it is not racist in and of itself -- it just reminds everyone of his ethnic background. And I do believe that is on purpose and clearly a lot of people are uncomfortable with it.

That's okay. It is probably to be expected. And I'll even add that I imagine a certain percentage of the birther crowd would still be uncomfortable, even if they knew he was born in the U.S., with the fact that his father is Kenyan.

do you really think anyone needs to be reminded of Obama's ethnicity?

That's incredibly rude and insensitive. I'd have definitely shouted them down. Guess wing nut is gonna' wing nut.

So the TP isn't racist or composed of racists - there's a wing nut or two.

Good to see you've finally come to your senses.

what does his father being kenyan have to do with anything?

you and gsvol need to hang out clearly.

I didn't do the photoshop. The TP leadership person did.

I loved the line: "I have friends who are black."

And here she is outright lying about it afterwards: http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/local/orange_county&id=8078594

First she sends it only to people she didn't think would be offended. Then she says it didn't even occur to her that it was at a minimum racially insensitive.

As I said above, the birther issue is a proxy for Obama's ethnicity. It keeps the issue in the fore, and keeps people wondering if he's African, and even Muslim.

It's not even subtle.

I really do not understand why conservatives would ever defend or try to explain this away. Fire this woman, admit that race is an issue for some within the TP, even some very high up, that it shouldn't be ignored but instead should be dealt with, and move on.

How hard is that? Dancing around like this and trying to deflect well-deserved criticism of this lady and her email just reinforces the perception that racism is ingrained in the TP. You'd be far better off confronting it.

I think we won't see it because he doesn't have one and that's it. I love how the liberal azz media sticks up for him every time it comes up. Shows like GMA make me sick. George Stepanopoulos made me want to reach through the tv and choke the life out of him. The media is eat up with clueless dipsheets.

Yeah (LOL) that's it. It couldn't possibly be that he has a zillion other things to do that are more important. Whether you think so or not, it just isn't that big of an issue to most people. Certainly it is in this part of the country, which is indicative of why people in the South are still stereotyped as a bunch of hillbillies and rednecks.
